Post Orlando..a nice place

A lot of people seem to want to move to Florida. Some cities are to small and others are big and over crouded (ie miami), but Orlando seems to be a happy medium. Orlando's downtown area is growing very rapidly and i think is becoming a desirable place to be. You can find many available places to rent in the surroundings but is too far from everything. I have a rental property available right now in the downtown area and is near everything, email if interrested, but downtown orlando is close to the malls, the beach, other "big" cities, interstate hwys and the theme parks. What else can you ask for.

With all due respect, are you kidding? Maybe 20 years ago Orlando was a nice place. Been here since '79. Seen a LOT of change. Much of it not for the better. Traffic has been and always will be the weak link here. And they are beginning to ***** up I-4 in the downtown area with the new 408 interchange. You can't find a decent apartment here. Many apt complexes are going condo and they are squeezing out the young kids that are just getting by. Who's going to work at the Mouse once they all leave for lack of affordable housing? Did I mention crime? I know that channel 9 always likes to lead their news with all the days carjackings but there is a great deal of truth to it. I'm still stuck here for another 1 1/2 years. Once my kid gets out of school, I will retire and move elsewhere. Orlando once was nice. Not anymore.

We lived in Orlando twice. The first time was in a terrible apartment complex in East Orlando. There were gangs, crime and bugs like you wouldn't believe. People let their dogs swim in the pool, their kids ran wild, and walking to you car was a challange within itself.

The second time around, we moved to a house in College Park, which was much safer but we still had the bug problems. The neigborhood was relatively safe, and centrally located. This was several years ago now, and we were considering moving back to Florida (we're open to all areas). Is all of Orlando terrible now? Also, are there any areas with less bugs (we don't spray)?

We live in Winter Garden and love our town!! We are possibly going to move to NC and we're going to miss our downtown area ... check it out. The bug issue ... our only concern is spiders.

Well, I dont know what people expect. People talk about crime, and traffic and so on...but where can you find a place that doesnt have that? Maybe if you go to Smallvile in Iowa...all people do is complain about the traffic. Believe me, there a worse places than ORlando when it comes to traffic. What do you expect out of a growing city anyway? You go to any city, big or small, and you will still find that people complain about traffic and other similar things. If anything, traffic means that people drive here because there is work available, which generates the need of goods and services and generates more work and so on. So is not a bad sign. As for crime...where can you go that you couldn't find crime? Lets be realistic. Obviosly if you go to a "rough" part of town, things are going to happen. It's all about where you go/move.

LMAO Methinks you need to get out more... many others places are NOT like this. You think crime stays in the rough areas???? Like the thugs don't know the best "pickins" are in the "nice" areas where peolpe have expensive toys to steal. And they will walk right in your house in broad daylight while you are in the house to rob you. Nowdays you are lucky to get out of that alive.

And the traffic? Ok some cities are worse, I'll give you that, but around here it's a product of poor city planning (or complete LACK thereof is more like it). These cities allow the developers to run rampant... building subdivions and gated communities everywhere without regard to the consequences that they bring to the area. You see, these developments have NO THROUGH STREETS to ease traffic flow. So all the traffic is forced onto the inadequate main roads. The result is a miserable gridlock. In my area it is growing like crazy and there's nowhere for all these people to exist. The city councels are increasing the unit/acre ratio while flat out ignoring the impact it will have on already saturated cities. Hmmm... this month Clearwater Beach increased their ratio from 40 units to 50 units per acre so they can approve bigger highrise condos. Most homes have 2 cars to a family, right? That's 100 cars per acre! Ok, now how in the hell are these people going to get around, or more importantly... evacuate! It's one thing to have an overcrowding problem inland, but in hurricane alley?? There needs to be careful planning............. Let's get real here.

Orlando is a nice place to live, think of it this way, we live in a city that thousands of folks spend their hard earned money to visit on vacation!
Problem is some people are sore because Orlando got discovered and now more and more people are moving here.
Its a wonderful city, and from Clermont to Kissimmee, it has something to offer anybody who wants to relocate here.
Traffic isnt all that bad, compair a typical Orlando commute to lets say Miami at rush hour; Orlando wins hands down. Ok its not like it was 5 years ago, but why do you think that is? Could it be because we are growing like mad?
Trust me folks, there arent too many places better then Orlando!
Come to Orlando and work, live, and play, you will LOVE IT!

I am so with you on this!!!! I live on the Winter Springs side of Oviedo. to get through this small overgrown town to the other side will take about an hour during smooth moving rush hour... but at 3:00 am... about 15 minutes! Please save yourself and don't evacuate here during a storm!! And crime here in this posh town is just as bad as anywhere else.

For all those who believe the schools here are "excellent"... you probably have never had your kids in other states' school systems... You don't have a clue. Until you get one, you will settle with the substandard education your children are receiving and do absolutely nothing about it. Now that Florida is going to use Kelly Services to not only grade the FCAT, but to replace our substitutes teachers, it is only going to get worse. There is a reason why so many people like me are complaining about the schools... think about it... there must be something to it.
