Hi!

My family and I will be re-locating to the suburbs west/southwest of Orlando in the next year or so, after my husband finds a job.

I am a registered nurse with 16 yrs experience, mostly in Labor & Delivery/Postpartum, and hope to stay in this specialty. I see jobs everywhere I look, but am most interested in jobs within the Florida Hospital Healthcare System, particularly Celebration Hospital and the hospitals closest to Clermont.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of the hourly rate for experienced nurses there and around the area, as well as shift-differentials? I currently work 12hr nights, and might look for the same, so would like to know if the pay is similar to what I make now. (I am expecting the hourly rate to be less, but have found, in general, that shift differentials vary greatly state to state.) Also - are nursing jobs in the hospitals generally every other wknd, or every third?

Thanks for any/all input... it's greatly appreciated!

With your experience, I would guess about $38/hr staff with benefits. Per diem or pool approx $45. Most hospitals do offer twelve hour shifts. Shift diff about $4/hr

Default Florida Hospital

Look into Florida Hospital for Children. Also, the hospital is building a new women's facility that will open next year. This might be a great option for you. Plus I hear that this hospital treats the nurses better than other facilities. My neighbor works as a case manager on the ICU in pediatrics...she loves the work environment and has had advancement opportunities.

Good luck.

A friend of mine makes (or made) $31 an hour as an RN at Florida Hospital. She's been doing it for at least a few years, but I don't know for how long. I don't know any other details. I only know the pay because it came up for a similar reason one day (someone else was asking for the same info as you).

Thank you! It's so much better/easier asking on these sites than trying to talk to an HR Rep... they are versed in double-speak!

I agree with jamcruise's estimate of $38/hr (including night differentials).

For anyone else who is curious, I spoke with a nurse recruiter at Florida Hospital, and with 16 yrs experience, and an ADN degree, my starting salary is $30/hr. Evening differential is 16%, night shift differential is 35%.

So... starting pay is lower than in NY, as I expected, but shift differentials are higher, as ours cap at $5.25/hr, regardless of the percentage offered.

Anyone have any other information from some of the other hospitals in the Central FL area?

South Lake works 12 hour shifts, three days one week, four the next.

If you want L&D or neonatal, Winnie Palmer might be another choice, although most women I know have had a better experience at quiet South Lake as opposed to urban Winnie Palmer--with a clientele which often reflects the urban environment.

A community hospital like South Lake is probably fine if everything goes well (just like a mid-wife home birth). But if you have any complications (or have a high-risk pregnancy to begin with --- older age, obese/diabetic, etc), WP is the way to go. They have all of the specialists needed on call 24/7 for a high-risk pregnancy. While they do get a lot of the urban population, many well to do/educated people from the "suburbs" who are in the know will also go there.
