Default Need to move

I know many of you will think I’m crazy but I’m looking to buy a house in the Orlando area. We don’t have much money we currently live in NY & the plan is to shut down our home (it wont sell & if it does we wont profit) and move. We just want out of here! We really don’t care where we move to we just need to get into a place. Does anyone know of any programs or builders or any ideas to help me? Thanks Nikki

I would move anywhere except Orlando especially if finances are your main reason. Most likely you will end up in a low paying tourist job, barely to afford anything and take a bunch of BS from spoiled and cheap tourists. Please you will regret it more than NY. I would not consider anything in Florida for that matter. You also have to take in consideration of an automobile. You will have to drive alot farther here than in NY, maintenance is another cost.

That's all that needs to be said. Do NOT move to Orlando, the cost of living is very high, and the jobs pay very low. You will end up in a worse financial situtation than you are now. I left Orlando for Pennsylvania so I could afford a place to live!

I know it sounds thrilling, like I live in the big city of NY WHAWHO. But the truth is I live way upstate in Sullivan County everything is an hour from me There is NOTHING to do there are no jobs its awful. We have been waiting for my husband to pass his nursing nclex test to make this move. He passed the LPN and plans on retaking the RN so the job and money situation should get better. But we have got to get out of here! It sounds as though you really dont like Orlando what about the surrounding areas do you think they are better? We have only been on vacation but we do have family in Vero Beach so we are looking there as well. We are really open to any and all afforadable areas. Thanks for your response Happy New Year! I would not suggest Orlando, if you are set on moving to Florida. This is a tourist based economy with mostly low paying service jobs. The job market for better paying jobs is highly competitive here. Good higer level type jobs that may be easily be had in NY without a college degree, will require a degree in Orlando, due to the highly competitive nature of the market here and the scarcity of those types of jobs. I would suggest the Tampa/St. Pete area as a possible alternative.

There is a hugh medical research park currently under construction in Orlando, so there will be, more than likely, a lot of nursing type opportunties in the near future.

You don't have much money...you are looking to just bail on your current house as it won't sell....ummm...why on earth would you buy in Orlando or buy anywhere for that matter? By bailing on your house in NY, do you mean foreclosure? If so, how could you buy anywhere anyway?

There is a huge bubble just starting to unwind and tons and tons of cheap rentals all over. Renting is a great deal these days for anyone. For someone in you situation, especially a newcomer to an area, it is the only sane thing to do!

If money is a concern, try smaller towns away from the larger metro areas. Quite a few of the beach towns are small enough that there can still be somewhat affordable housing (pick up a foreclosure, or save someone from foreclosure), and some do have decent sized medical hospitals for your husband to find a job - Melbourne for example.

If you're considering having a family and can't afford to send your kids to private school, definitely stay away from the major metro areas. Many of my college friends, bound for middle class livelihood, have moved out of state for a more affordable lifestyle - so you may want to consider other options as well..

Default Suggestion

I have a suggestion for you if you are set on coming to Florida. I live in Poinciana which is just west of Kissimmee and you can find MANY homes for sale very cheap (by Florida standards), and there are 2 hospitals within 30 minutes of the area for a job for your husband.
I wouldn't suggest coming to Florida when there are much more cost efficient areas to go, but if you are set on coming down this way...I would look into Poinciana but on the Polk county side as the taxes are cheaper than the Osceola county side. You must also want to live in a high spanish speaking population or you will not be happy. We have many great neighbors and shopping centers with restaurants being built as we speak, but you have to do research before just jumping in, or you may regret it more than staying in NY.

Do you speak Spanish? Do you love sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic? Do you like high house prices, but low wages?

You'll love Orlando.

I've lived here since 1972 and I'm about to throw in the towel. The traffic has become truly horrible. Immigration is out of control. Housing prices are through the roof, and if you buy, you'll likely have to live next door to renters who couldn't care less about your property values.

Orlando used to be a nice place to live back in the 70's and 80's. The 90's were okay. But now, I wish I had have moved away at least five years ago.
