I'm saying you don't have to pay the toll.

There is no state income tax here, so people should have extra money left over for tolls. Unless their spending the money they saved on big screen TVs. And whose fault is that? Not Floridas.

One is better of using Google Maps and avoiding all expressways altogether. Its definitely not a Florida thing. Jacksonville, Miami and Tampa Bay dont hassle drivers like that. You may see a toll here and there but in the Orlando metro its the worst.
Have you ever been anywhere outside FL and GA?

This is very common in many places and is not just a "Florida" thing.

GSP, MD Turnpike, State Routes 73, 133, 241 and 261 in CA, the list goes on. Get out more and see this country, you might be surprised what you will find.

Yes, we are from Chicago and there are toll roads everywhere there. And you DO have to stop and pay every 10 miles or so (maybe less). That's why Illinois has the "IPass" system.

We are happy down here and don't mind the tolls. We got SunPasses and as someone else mentioned, the huge savings on the state income tax alone more than makes up for it.

Also, the real kicker back north was, you paid tons in tolls (and state tax) and yet the roads STILL sucked! Massive potholes everywhere. Constant construction. MASSIVE traffic (think I4 on steroids). Ridiculous. At least down here you get beautiful, mostly empty roads on which to drive.

Here's a picture of the toll plaza right near our old house. This is a NORMAL day, not some kind of unusual back up due to an accident or something. Seriously, it looks like this every.single.day.

We went through like 3 tolls in a span of 10 minutes, I've never seen anything like that anywhere else. And 2 more tolls just to turn around on the highway, they don't always work either.

The roads are MUCH better than they are in NY though.

Nothing will ever top a $15 bridge toll into Manhattan

The tolls are the reason we have smooth roads here.

The interstates are equally smooth.

Fl has smooth roads because we don't have to deal with winter ice, snow and salt

If you can't afford the tolls, you can't afford Orlando. Maybe somewhere else would be cheaper for you, like North Dakota, or Muscle Shoals Alabama.

That is an awful area with a lot of tolls. I live near Fort Lauderdale and haven't taken a local toll road in a long time. I never use the Turnpike, it's out of the way and doesn't get me where I need to go. We don't really have many toll roads hear luckily.
