How much notice would you have given them if you quit? A couple of months?

You're right. I understand it was $23 million and a search is on for other property in Orlando.

They are also saying that some employees are being kept on, some are transfering. Yeah, um, managers (some) are transfering, and a small small small handful are being kept on for manual labor until everything is taken apart. Do us a favor, boycott the other Herschend properties: Dollywood, Silverdollar City, Stone Mountain, Dixie Stampedes, Wild Adventures, and the Ducks.
Well I have to say I never had the urge to go to any of them anyway. Not really my speed. All things considering, it shouldn't be hard for you to find another job making that kidn of money.

Its because of things like this along with the low pay.
I would rather have the 2 months pay that they are giving the employees then a two week notice.

From the general tone of your posts, it seems pretty clear that you have limited experience. This kind of action is not uncommon and certainly not limited to the Orlando area. I know when you live somewhere and your misreable it all seems like its BAD only where you live but once you get a little more experience, you will see that employers don't generally care that much for their employees and will do only what is required by law.

Default 2 months pay!

Actually, that is VERY generous. Even at the low rate, that should give folks the equivalent of 2-3 weeks income while they get another job.

The problem with giving 2 months notice is that many folks will quit immediately, so the company is SOL.

Sorry for those who did lose their jobs, though. That sux. Hope you get an even better job soon!

Default wow

I couldnt believe it when i heard from the board it had closed down. We were going to go in a couple of weeks as it was one of the things we had heard good things about but never got around to do. It is a shame. I was talking to my wife about it and she heard through her office that they were offered an insane amount for the land and couldnt pass it up. It is sad to be sure, i do feel sorry for the people who worked there. It is a rough thing to happen, i guess that what happens when a State is a right to work state.

Just giving a warning to those who are thinking of moving here. This absolutely disgraceful, not like I would ever go there anyway. Business owners do not give one lick about the very people who make them successful. Almost 200 workers out of a job now all because of greed. Welcome to Florida, where your education does not matter.

Same thing happened to a relative in New Jersey on December 28. No warning, just layoff, closing down. She was there 14 years. It happens everywhere, it's business.

Businesses really don't like to close down. And it has nothing to do with a "right to work State".

Default well.....

At the end of they day business are there to make money and by selling off the land they could make more money than their normal operations could generate otherwise they wouldnt have sold the property. However, the point i was trying to make was how sorry i feel for all those people who are out of work with no notice. I doubt any of them received any pay beyond the closure, and companies in florida can get away with this because its a right to work state. They dont have to give you 2 weeks notice or anything. they can turn around and lay you off in a heartbeat. Business is business but i was refering to people being let go with immediate effect. That is down to Florida being a right to work state and companies can do it because of that.
