A real and sumarized info of the area
Ocoee: Yes, depending on the sourounding areas. Some areas in Ocoee are trashy/old/run down/trailer parks.
Windermere: Heck ye!! But can you afford it, with all the costs??
East Orlando: ABSOLUTELY NOT! There is a 20-mile area in East Orlando (which is basically all of Eats Orlando, othern than Waterford Lakes and Avalon Park) that are absulte trailer trash land and othyer parts will soon declare independence from the US and become part of Mexico. Either way, stay away from East Orlando!
I agree. Seminole County = Good
Osceola County: YUCK!

Every place has its good and its bad. Like I said, we have lived here in Ocoee since 2001 and have had zero problems with crime. You said you've never seen a mall with that many police..well.. I guess you've never been to NJ lol
and we lived in an upscale area of Morris County!
Crime has picked up in the Central Florida area yes, but so has the population.
So, according to the statistics of population verses crime, it isn't that high.
I wouldn't let my kids go to ANY mall by themselves anywhere, so that has nothing to do with the area, that's just good common sense parenting.
People see what they want to see. If you are negative and constantly looking for trouble, you'll be sure to find it alright!
Read the story I quoted about the man moving from the mountain to the valley and the other one moving from the valley to the mountain....lol
..........it's very relative to what goes on above the neck and in between the ears.

My car was parked quite a ways back in the lot and I had a police officer along with a security person escort me to my car. That mall has lost all its majors anchors and is a shadow of what it was 10 years ago. It is a nice building but I would not let my kids go there by themselves. I have never been to a mall before where there were so many police around, in the stores everywhere. I like to feel safe and free to move about and although I applaud the police for the upgraded security, it is a little sad that it is deemed necessary. There are some nice "cookie-cutter" subdivisions located in Ocoee but I prefer a nice safe area, not just a walled-off subdivision. I think a lot of people from out of state do get sucked in to the area because they can purchase a brand new home with all the upgrades for 1/2 the price of up North but most people that know the area do not want to move to this part of West Orlando. Developers see a way to make a quick buck.. . they buy land in a not-so-desirable area for cheap, build cookie-cutter homes and sell them to the uninformed.

You are correct, if you are use to crime and a police presence where you come from then of course it would not be alarming to you. But let me tell you that is NOT normal. Looking for trouble? Negative? Honey, I was just trying to give some advise so people who do not live in the area will not move there without the facts. Ocoee is NOT an area I would want friends or family moving to. . If you are happy there great. But don't get so defensive regarding your area. Do the research, I believe there was a murder in Ocoee two weeks ago. You can google it. You are right, there has been an increase of crime in Central Fl. however there are a lot of better choices (IMO) than Ocoee!

27 year old man murdered in the middle of the morning at Judy's Diner in Winter Garden. The diner was packed when the gun man came in and started shooting. Probably a drug-related shooting. Does this give you a sense of Winter Garden?

Winter Garden is not paradise by all means. But it is not hell either. I would NOT want to live there myself, but each to their own.
I would rather live in Ocoee or in Seminole county........

The shooting was at Judy's Diner on OLD WINTER GARDEN RD. It is in Orlando, not even close to to the Winter Garden city limits. Gang/Drug related shooting if I recall correctly.

West Oaks Mall in Ocoee is dead. Unless you like hip-hop clothing and cheap bling bling off of carts there is nothing there. The Belk store closed the entire upper floor, and there are lots of vacant store fronts. I wouldn't recommend going near the place after dark. Groups of "kids" walk the mall like they own the place, yelling and screaming at each other. Too bad, it used to be a nice place. Might as well change the name to West Pine Hills Mall.

Wow! That's a shame....I remember when it was a nice mall. I had planned a trip over there just to shop at Belks now that school is out and I have some free time. I guess I better go to the one at Seminole Town Center instead. Thanks for the info...you saved me a trip!

West Oaks is not that bad! I went shopping there the other day...was fine...no shouting groups of gangs that i was aware of...just lots of mommies pushing thier infants around.....and Me and my BF go there all the time at night for movies...its GREAT because its never packed even on opening night. I infact like that mall...
And i live on University Bvld...there are lots of nice places in East Orlando....never had crime in our neighborhood...i love it....
each place has bad parts...but i mean...if you take the time to search for the nicer parts..your fine.....
