Yes, they do.

If someone works hard enough to get great grades in high school and can get into Harvard, they pay NOTHING if their family income is under $60K. There are plenty of opportunities, people just don't want to have to actually work towards them anymore.

Annerk, I am with you in agreeing that payday loan places like Amscot DO in fact serve a purpose. (As you said, those who cannot get bank accounts and need to cash their paychecks. Those who need a cash advance. Those who need money orders (and why not get them for free)

And I can say without a DOUBT that Amscot is not only in poor areas. There are 3 in far south Orlando alone, a mainly middle to upper middle class area. I can think of another location across from Fashion Sq Mall, not a poor area either

And anybody who complains about getting harassing collection calls from Amscot obviously wasn't responsible enough and took out too much money. I'm not proud to say this but I take out cash advances from Amscot regularly to help my mom with the bills. I have a cash advance limit of $150, but I never take out anymore than $100, its good to know I can go higher, but I don't want to overshoot the mark ya know

As long as you pay them back within 2 weeks of getting the money, its usually ok

Davie,

I'm offering this advice.

1. Your mom is an adult. You need to figure out how much you can give her a week, and that's it. You are enabling her. That's not healthy for either of you.
2. Stop taking cash advances. They are no good. They are costing you dearly. You'd be better off putting one of your mom's bills on a credit card and paying that off within two weeks. It will cost you $11 from Amscot and even if it's an 18% card, you'd only pay $.75. If you take 18 $100 cash advances a year, that's $198 a year. If you put $100 on an 18% credit card 18 times a year and pay it off within two weeks, you'll pay $13.50.

You've got a stable job and have been paying your car off (I'm hoping payments have been on time) there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get a credit car with a $500 credit limit and no annual fee. The Chase Sapphire card even pays you back in cash if you want.

And actually, if you don't carry a balance you can pay )% on the credit card as long as you pay it off by the due date. Almost $200 is probably close to a week's pay at your Publix job.

I know what it means. It means right to work without union representation. Which means you can be fired whenever they get ready. Which means even if you have a legitimate excuse for missing a day, or being late, you can be fired immediately. This is why I say you should always be looking to upgrade your skills while working these type of low paying, no benefit jobs.

None of that is true in right to work states. In places like NY though, those friendly labor laws in the public sector give the state the right to rape your wallet at tax time

You still do not grasp "right to work" state.

What it means is you cannot be forced to join a union in order to obtain or retain a job.

What you write about, being fired, that is called Employment at Will. If an employer no longer has the will to employ you, you can be terminated. On the same token, if you do not wish to work someplace you can simply walk away without repercussion.

I agree. Always upgrade skills. Don't take low paying no benefit jobs unless you have to.

I don't see why some think that employers hire people, train people and toss the good employees so easily. Lousy employees get fired regardless.

Every company I have ever worked for is an "Employment At Will" company, where you can be fired for any reason or no reason, or even because the manager just doesn't like you

Yep, me too. And that includes NYC. if you can't cut the mustard, you're out. If you are not a team player in a team environment, you're out. You don't show up for work, you're out. Otherwords, if you are a crummy employee, you're out.
