I lived in the Oviedo area for several years and very much enjoyed my time there, it is a relatively quiet and family-friendly suburban community that is close enough to Orlando that you can still enjoy the urban perks but far enough so that you still get a small-town type feel, it was rated one of the "Best Places to Live" several years go which goes to tell. IMO the pros far outweigh the cons, but here goes:

PROS: Good schools, nice neighborhoods, small-town feel, friendly residents, Oviedo Mall, nice city parks and recreational facilities, close to UCF

CONS: Toll Road (417) is only direct highway access, some areas on outskirts are very rural, traffic on Alafaya Trail

Pros:
Safety
Good Schools
Daily Conveniences Easily Accessible (Grocery, Malls, Movies, etc.)
Easy access to UCF for work, school or entertainment/community enrichment that it offers (D-1 Sports, Theater, Guest Lectures, Parks, Events, etc.)
One of the best places in the area for bicyclists/runners (Lockwood, Cross Seminole Trail, Little Big Econ Forest, UCF Arboretum)

Cons:
Lack of a true community gathering place (yet)
Not much history
Using toll roads to get to DT Orlando is almost essential
Some high volume traffic along Alafaya due to UCF close at hand
The food scene is DOMINATED by chains

That being said, I think it's still a pretty good place to be.

Oviedo losing high value housing appreciation. Not Oviedo proper but just some particular neighborhoods going bad. Had to end my house hunting search because of too many flippers doing shady work and over value of homes. Just my observation but mainly the same in other comparable orange/Seminole county real estate.
