This was the quote:
Health Management Associates, Inc., which owns nearby Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center and St. Cloud Regional Medical Center, previously opposed the project saying there was no need.
"Access to acute healthcare for the patients in Poinciana is limited only by the fact that road infrastructure has not been a development priority for that community," says Ann Barnhart, senior vice president of operations for Health Management (NYSE: HA), in a statement made after the state's approval. "We continue to believe that the need is for an urgent care facility and physicians offices only. The decision to build another acute care hospital will only serve to further dilute the already scarce medical resources that are necessary to deliver quality care."

I think this is rubbish! St Cloud is more concerned with losing resources that medical care. Poinciana and the surrounding areas have experienced tremendous population growth and warrant better health care in the direct area. I hope they lose their appeal! I hope all 70,000+ people in Poinciana call, email, fax, and show up at St Cloud Regional, Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center, and HMA to let them know that! If you agree that Poinciana's residents and businesses need a hospital, let them know what you think!

I think these are the same people holding up the progress on the hospital in oviedo. it may be resolved now, im not sure, but they held it up for a few years already with appeals.

Thanks for the contact numbers. I called HMA & was connected to their legal department. Of course I was told that my complaint would be passed along to the right department - sure I did state that I have used their hospitals in the past but would boycott them from now on. For those that are not aware Florida Hospital put in an application for themselves not long ago but flip flooped on that idea. This current appeal is just a delay tactic & will cost the residents of Poinciana ; hopefully the cost won't be a child's life.

i got it backwards. hma won the hospital rights to build in oveido and cfrh has been apealing for several years. hma got the ok in 2004 and planned to be constructed by 2007. we still dont have a hospital because of the cfrh corporate greed.

If the state agrees & approves a certificate of need should a private enterprise have the right to appeal? I wish I had a business that I could say I don't want any competition. I guess the appeal process gives the state commission something to do

I SPOKE WITH SEVERAL PARAMEDICS AND EMT'S TRANSPORTING PATIENTS FROM POLK COUNTY AS FAR AS HIGHWAY 27 AND MOST OF THEM SAY THAT MAJORITY OF THE PATIENTS AND FAMILIES REFUSED TO GO TO HEART OF FLORIDA. THEY DONT RECEIVED QUALITY CARE, ROOMS ARE SMALL AND 90% ARE SEMI-PRIVATE. THEY DONT HAVE PRIVACY AND HIGH RISK FOR INFECTION LIKE MRSA. SHARING BATHROOM WITH SOMEBODY YOU DONT EVEN KNOW AND OF COURSE NOT TO CONSIDER THEIR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS VISITING. IF MY INSURANCE WILL PAY FOR THE SERVICES, I'D RATHER GO TO A STATE OF THE ART HOSPITAL AND DEFINITELY NOT HEART OF FLORIDA AND NOT ST CLOUD.
A LOT OF PATIENTS FROM ST CLOUD REQUEST TO BE TRANSFERRED TO OSCEOLA REGIONAL . MOST SPECIALIST DONT GO TO ST CLOUD (WONDER WHY?)AND BESIDES HMA SHOULD BE FOCUSED ON UPGRADING THE 2 HOSPITALS TO BE COMPETITIVE WITH THE MARKET.
I'M PRETTY SURE THAT POINCIANA HOSPITAL WILL BE A STATE OF THE ART BECAUSE HCA IS ALWAYS FOCUSED ON QUALITY PATIENT CARE AND QUALITY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR A PERSON'S LIFE...SAFETY, BEING COMFORTABLE AND SATISFIED WITH THE SERVICES.

This is why I go to Celebration if I have to go to the ER. I think most people do the same because Celebration has gotten very busy now.

Had an incident with Osceola Regional - medication error with the nurse insisting that I take the meds. I could have been in serious trouble had I not refused. So, perfect they are not; clearly it is still better to have a hospital then none at all & Osceola Regional did address the problem I had with great concern.

Osceola uses the EMAR. Basically it is scanning the barcodes of medications and patient identification band. This helps a lot in the prevention of medication error. The EMAR reflects the medication ( brand and generic name) dose ordered by the physician, frequency and even the time the medication should be given. If the medication is not in the patient's profile, something will pop up the screen. This then will stop the staff from administering the medication. Not even this 2 HMA hospitals uses this technology, and I dont think Florida Hospital Celebration too.
