Thousands of bear hunting permits sold | Local News - WESH Home

OK my take on what the news article said- only 200 (I heard 300) bears could be killed- yet they have sold over 1000 permits? Besides it being a money maker- hope that goes to help the other bears- I cannot see ONLY 200 getting killed with all those guns out there --and I PRAY-- they only kill a bear not a child or anything else.
Bears are not small or that elusive to shoot at- and GOD please keep young kids away from seeing these hunters -are they staying only in the woods?

Hunters have to abide by a variety of laws. They can't hunt or shoot in residential areas or within a certain distance (1000 feet maybe?) of a residence. They can't hunt on private property without permission. They sold more permits than there are bears because not everyone will even find a bear to shoot at, and each kill needs to be registered. Once they hit the max number they will tell everyone to go home.

This entire situation could be avoided if people wouldn't provide bears with food sources. Keep garbage in the house/garage or buy bear safe cans, stop feeding them (yes, there are some idiots who do this), and report bears in neighborhoods so the rangers can trap and release them in safer areas.

The average homeowner in Orlando, Clermont, Kissimmee, Winter Springs, etc. has nothing to worry about, as 99% of those area will be off limits to hunters.

People die every year in mini-lobster hunt season. People will die in this too.
