Default Thinking about move from Oregon to Orlando area

This may have been covered in other threads before so if so, sorry in advance. I live in Oregon (Outside of Medford) and live on 7 acres.

We are investigating the Orlando area, more specifically something with a few acres. I know I can't get the acreage right near Orlando so we were thinking in the neighborhood of 30-40 minutes away (this is as far as my wife is willing to drive for work). Not sure about traffic patterns and flow and how that would affect the 30-40 minute plan. Mileage isn't as much the concern as is the commute time.

Like to be rural, private, secluded and would like to find a newer home on a few acres. Doesn't need to be 7 acres, but a few would be great. Not interested in land for horses/farming, just land with a few decent acres with privcy. Water front on a river or lake would be nice but not required.

Do not like home owner's associations and usually prefer to live in the county vs inside city limits - less restrictions, more freedom, etc.

Not particular at this point which direction from Orlando, just want to be close to decent schools for middle-school/elementary school age kids (would consider a private school if needed).

Would love to hear all pros/cons, get comments on certain areas (good/bad) and get all the input anyone wants to through out there.

Thanks - Mark

Default hi

To be honest their are alot of variables and pricing varies significantly where you are. I am actually working with a client who i have his home listed in Celebration and am sourcing properties with a few acres for them. Areas we have looked at include Winter Garden, (where there is very little) up to Clermont and the surrounding areas which would be in your comute time. I would be happy to offer you some tangible advise but would need to have a good chat with you to get into specifics so i could give some sort of idea of what you would be looking at.

If you need any help feel free to contact me

Nick

I think you will have a hard time finding what you are looking for here.

Most rural areas around Orlando are owned by people who have been there the entire life and will not leave, or a subdivision is being built where some nice rural land was.

maybe try Kenansville or Yeehaw Junction in Osceola county.

Try Lake County -- west of Orlando.

It depends on where your job is. In general most of the rural areas are more than 30-40 minutes from downtown Orlando. You also will not be able to buy acres of land, maybe 1-2 acres at best. HOA's are everywhere and you cannot avoid them unless you want to live in a really rural area, which again would put you too far from Orlando. Most of the Orlando area is suburban and there is almost no rural left that can be built on.

If you get waterfront property you will also have alligators, almost always and if you have pets that can get near the water, that's a recipe for losing your pet.

You could try Polk County - I live in Lakeland, and when I drive up north of town, it becomes very rural. I used to live in Dade City which is Northwest of here in Pasco County. Polk County is large, and it may be possible for you to find something, but you are going to be AT LEAST 45 minutes away to fulfill your parameters. But the east side of Polk County is fairly easy driving distance to Orlando, and you might get lucky. There is a small town called Auburndale to the east of Lakeland, maybe on the outskirts of that town you might find something.

Good luck!

Thumbs up Moving Central Florida

I have been in St. Cloud since 1958. There are still some smaller tracts of land available in St. Cloud. We are close to the the Airport. We have lakes, and also are not from from the Beach. There are alot of properties on the market in the area that may fit what you are looking for. I agree with some of the other posts, you may find it difficult to get acreage in Orlando. Check out Osceola County.

You could also try Chuluota near Oviedo; probably 40+ minutes to Downtown Orlando

Just exporing options. Oregon (at least where we're at) is not for us in the long run - multiple but personal reasons. Thanks everyone else for the input. Again, just doing research to see if the possible move is viable and if it ultimately makes sense for us. In the end, it may or may not work but that's why I'm here, doing the homework.

I'm just curious, why Orlando, Orlando has no downtown except vacant storefronts, has the most oppressive hot humid weather on earth without a beach, is turning into a 3rd World mostly Spanish city and is riddled with crime, why Orlando???
