Hello,

We are planning to visit some of the Orlando theme parks, the coming Easter weekend. The weather predictions have rain and thunderstorms for every day that we are there. How bad are these usually in Orlando and how do the parks handle rain - do most outdoor rides get shut down and can we expect to find enough cover/things to do if it is prolonged rain? Also I assume purchasing the fast pass is recommended as it is a busy weekend? We are mainly looking at Animal kingdom or Disneyland, Universal and Legoland (we will have a couple of 8-year olds and a one-year old in the party).

Thanks for any info.

Severe thunderstorms and tornado watches/warnings are issued county by county. Given the size of our county, it may be a nightmare on one size and sunshine on the other. Hopefully, it will be sunshine over the theme parks when you visit.

If not, as it gets closer to your trip, try to see if the predictions place the storms in that area at specific times as opposed to all day. That way, you can plan to do indoor attractions during those times.

When a Fast Pass at Disney is canceled due to ride maintenance, I know they will allow you to use that Fast Pass at another specified list of attractions within that park during that time frame. (Ex. If Space Mountain at Disney's Magic Kingdom is closed during your 6:00 to 8:00pm window, then you will get an email saying you can use it perhaps at Pirates of the Caribbean, It's a Small World, etc. without having to register for a new ride.) I've never been to Disney during lightning or severe weather, so I don't know if the same thing applies.

Have heard that locals like to go to Disney on rainy days. Less lines. Less tourists

If need be Disney will take weather precautions. Just take a poncho not umbrella

Enjoy

My family once visited Disney on a day when the forecast was for rain all day -- and the forecast turned out to be correct. I have the following suggestions for you, which worked well for us.

Before you go to the park, go to Publix and buy each person a poncho. They're cheaper and sturdier at Publix than they are at the park.

Wear a baseball cap under the poncho hood. The bill of the cap will of course extend out the front and it will get wet, but it will keep the rain off your face.

Wear sandals that can get wet without getting ruined. Soggy sneakers are not comfortable.

Roller coasters may be shut down if there's a threat of lightning.

You can still have fun even if it rains all day -- just have a positive attitude about it.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and input. Rain predictions turned out to be a false alarm mostly, we didn't even need to take out our ponchos! Orlando is fantastic for a family vacation with kids, all of us loved it!
