Hello to the Moore family in UK who are moving to Orlando soon.
This is my first time to ever go on a forum and I'm not sure what I'm doing, but I'll see how it goes. The first thing I saw was your comment about moving from UK to Florida soon. We're HOPING to do the same this year if possible. I realise how difficult it is, with visas, schools etc. I was wondering how you've managed to work out the school system. Our son is 16 so doing his GSCE's in May. After that we hope to start planning our move, if we can buy a business. Any tips or comments you have would be greatly appreciated. What part are you moving to and (importantly) where did you start to search for a decent school? Many thanks Rosemary Shove |

I've posted this info before, but will do so again. My stepson is from England and is using this immigration lawyer: Welcome to Silzer Law Chartered - Practicing US Immigration Law Nationwide with Offices in Orlando, Florida and Valencia, California He will tell you whatever you need to know, and you can probably get quite a few answers from his website. I think the financial requirement for coming in on a business visa is quite steep, even with the essentially two to one advantage you have.
Whichever visa you decide to go for, please do consult a lawyer. You don't want to attempt the paperwork yourself. If you make a mistake and screw it up, you'll just have to do it again. You'll waste a lot of time that way, and the process takes long enough, as it is. |

Rosemary,
I am in exactly the same position regarding schools, we have only just definatly decided that this is what we ALL want to do, so at the moment we are probably at the same stage tbh!! As I said we are wanting this asap, but have not even spoke to a lwyer/solicitor regarding visa apps etc you may be slightly more advance than us, we should perhaps work together on it and help each other along?!!?! *TO THE MOORES AND SHOVES FAMILY*. It always puts a smile on my face when I see a post of yet another Brit coming over this way. I lived in Notting Hill/Bayswater for over 14 years.
Anyway, your choice of Orlando, FL is a good one. Getting over here is another issue, of which the experience is determined by where your advise is coming from. Sometimes, it's a little sad to see one Brit giving the other (the new one in town) bad advise so they can make some money of it. Though, most of the time this is not the case. Good luck. nasser, If your comment is directed at me, I'm an American. I have no connection of any sort to the attorney and no financial incentive to recommend him; he's simply been useful for my stepson, after a series of bad advice. Glad to see your interests are entirely altruistic.

*VINCERO* no need to get paranoid. The comment was not meant for you. I just wanted to be informative as others (personal friends of mine) have, unfortunatly, ended up down the wrong line.

Hi Moore Family
We are living in Oviedo just east of Orlando. We are British (although we've been in the USA for over eight years now) and have been in Oviedo for just over a year. We gravitated to the Seminole County area as they have the best reputation for schools. You may want to look very closely at the public school system. My children are still quite young but I believe the school system here does not expect as much from the children as the UK or other States further North. This is just my experience and talking with other mothers here British and American. Feel free to email me with any questions! Good luck! We had a wonderful Estate Agent help us find a home, home buying here is very different than in the UK and you need to have an agent working for you with your best interests in mind. |
