My high school senior wants to remain at his zoned high school but we will be moving out of zone here in orange county.

Check the Orange County Schools website. I heard something a while back about open enrollment coming so that you could attend any school that would accept you AS LONG as they have room (which means the top school would be inundated with applications), but you would have to provide your own transportation. I don't know if that ever came to be or if it is in effect yet.

That open enrollment starts in 2017-2018 school year, if not shut down as unconstitutional from appeals, though I haven't heard of any set appeals starting.

If you're still in the county, I doubt anyone will check up- you just have to bus your own child to school. Wait to change any address paperwork until after August.

So lie?

That doesn't sound like very good advice.

When are they lying? Have you been to a school before?
How often do they ask the students what their address is?

So long as the OP is staying in the same county, the funding still remains the same.

Who cares how often students are asked their address?

That's not the point.

They may not overtly be lying, but they are withholding the truth.
They will not be attending school zone that their new residence is zoned for.

You are talking about a child's education, and you think it's ok to just let it "slip by"

Wow, you are a great role model.. "Hey kids, if you can get away with it, go for it!"
