An underwater fence would be a good idea and not visible, keeps gators out and people safe.
An underwater fence won't keep gators away. Even above-ground fences aren't enough. Gators climb residential fences to prey on peoples pets. As long as freshwater is there, gators will find a way in -- as will a number of other critters.

Alligators go in saltwater also.

Killing the delay animals is the sensible thing to do.

I think they'll change that law about letting the gators get big before killing them.
What is your problem with animals? Why do you think killing everything is the answer? I hope you don't have any pets.

Briefly. They can't live in saltwater. If they stay for any length of time, they die.
They go in pools too, but certainly don't stay in there for extended period of time.

Disney has pools. Lots of lovely, chlorinated pools for their guests. They also provide the beach locations for those who want that experience.

Disney is not the devil. And they aren't worried about a few signs "scaring" people.

This was a very tragic event. And Disney has said they will review their policies (which have obviously worked for more than 30 years) and put up signs. The beaches will stay, because the guests will want that.

The family this happened to may or may not sue. I suspect they won't have to. But that doesn't mean Disney is "making it all go away". It may simply mean that they want to have their time to grieve and then move forward. And Disney has and is making reparations of a kind.

I used to live on a salt water canal. Had a 4-5 footer that hung around for weeks in the canal. They do prefer freshwater but tolerate saltwater much more than many people think. In the Mexican Gulf there are under ground fresh water springs. That is how manatees who need fresh water to drink can survive for extended periods in the ocean. In coastal areas where there is a fresh water river that leads to the ocean they will show up from time to time. They also are on some barrier islands. Just this past year they pulled a 12 footer swimming off the beach in Venice.

There will be not laws to change anything- Cuban frogs give some asthma attacks - kids love to pick up frogs.
ouu-- means that the sting ray jabbed me on the foot- and it was extremely painful.
We are not going to change Florida's natural habitat for tourist or people who transplant here and can't deal with it. There is gator hunting, just as python and bear hunting when the state deems it needs it.
If not happy with the environment-- move to where you will be at peace-- Disney will change the signs--
But- saw the weather channel yesterday Midwest will be in the 115 plus range- we are in the high 90's in June? The sharks are hot- more biting's, so maybe the alligators are also agitated with the warmer waters?
Some say no global warming... it may be something the earth does on its own every million years, but its hot baby -and the animals will react to it.

Everyone can agree that what happened to this family is unimaginable. But the demands for Disney to sanitize the park of ALL wildlife risks, close the beaches forever are ridiculous.

Signs warning of alligator risk should be placed at the very least. But it is part of life, there are scary and dangerous things in the world. I would venture to say, as others have alluded to, the biggest natural risk at Disney is probably lightning. /

A tree limb could potentially fall on a guest and kill them... I doubt that if it did happen people would be demanding that Disney cut down every tree over 8' tall if it happened

People are using all these analogies that don't correlate. When people are walking around they see trees in plain sight. When they're crossing the street they see cars. These risk are easy to identify. When you're at a Disney resort at their manmade beach, you don't exactly assume there are alligators lurking in the water unless a sign tells you so.

Tons of people are coming forward and saying they stayed there and the thought never occurred to them that there were alligator risks. One woman from Mississippi posted on Facebook she was at the lagoon an hour earlier that night letting her kid play at the edge. That isn't some hill billy from Iowa who has never heard of alligators. Disney blew it big time

Are you kidding? You know that people certainly would be out there demanding that Disney do just that because they were "aware of the risks". People are stupid, possible payoffs seem to make them more stupid.
