I don't remember correctly, but isn't 55 West suppose to be taller than the SunTrust building across from it? I'm on the I-4 "parking lot" every morning and I notice they started to build the roof on the structure. Another thing, why is a 1bd/1bth or loft so expensive in downtown, I just moved back in mid '06 and the rent is $1500 or to buy is at $300K.

Just looking for some insight? Thanks.

Buy it and you will be selling it for 200K in a year. There is no "DOWNTOWN" Orlando. A bunch of empty buildings do not make a city nor will it make one in the future. If it hasn't caught fire by now it never will.

Don't know about 55 west's supposed height. But I will tell you the bank that was financing the developer for 55 has foreclosed on the project, and they are not considering turning a large part of it into a hotel, and having much more office space.

Downtown condo market is very soft right now. Solaire is auctioning off their inventory soon as well.

Wow, I find myself spending more and more time downtown. There is a ton of stuff to do. I was at Tastings last night and it was full, we were lucky to get a table. As we left we drove down Orange Ave. to get on the 408, and it was hopping, even on a Tuesday night!

I just realized this thread was resurrected from over a year ago. 55 West is already going into 'luxury apartment' mode as many already know.

I do too. These Armchair suburbans who never go downtown and have no clue what it is like just love to spout sweeping generalizations.

I just looked again in my neighborhood and am still shocked at just how expensive it is (I was going to try to trade up). Downtown is thriving and for a city this size it is more than livable.

Hey now, I live formly ensconced in suburbia... and am downtown at least a few times a month for dining, entertainment, the arts, and shopping...
