Hey everybody, new user here.

I'm currently employed as an Emergency Medical Technician for Rural/Metro Medical Services in Buffalo, NY. My wife and I have been trying to get out since I despise everything about this city and state and we have been taking a serious look at the Orlando region. I'd like to have a job already lined up before we made any sort of move and I know that Rural/Metro operates in Orlando.

I was just wondering if there are other companies besides R/M that hire EMS workers and if it would be difficult to get a job in EMS in the Orlando area. In the Buffalo branch of Rural/Metro, we're always extremely short handed and the company doesn't have the best reputation here. I'm curious if things are any different down in the Sunshine State.

Thanks in advance for any information that you guys can give me.

In the Orlando area you have Rural Metro and American Ambulance. I worked at American Ambulance once upon a time. I hated it, but it's not a terrible place to start. The pay is little. You get off work late most days. Management doesn't look out for you..it felt like some of them were after you. If you really want to move down here than check it out. But it's not a place you want to stay at too long.

Thanks for the reply, dalmain. Sounds like American Ambulance and Rural Metro could be the same company. I'd stick with them just long enough to find something better. It'd pretty much just be a pay check until I found something else. Regardless, I appreciate the response.

The bigger question is can you afford a pay decrease and a higher cost of living? The average rent for a one bedroom in Orlando is over $1000 a month. Orlando rent increase second highest in the country, study says | Local News - Home

You can apply for paramedic positions at the hospitals or even try the fire department. I think rent in Orlando is low compared to other cities.

It could take yrs to get on with a fire dept here. Competition is insane.

You may be able to work at a hospital, not sure if they employ EMTs and/or medics.
