From Titusville to the airport there are no tolls. There are accidents everywhere on 95, no one area is immune to them.

There are two new housing developments in the "western" area of Cocoa directly off the 520 and the 524 literally 2 to 5 minutes from a 528 exit. They are both very nice subdivisions and are very safe. Unfortunately you need to drive east on 520 about 15 minutes to Merritt Island or 20 south on I95 to get to shopping and conveniences. There are two strip malls, one with a grocery store, CVS, Mobil Gas and a post office on the corner on the 524 near the 528 exits/on ramp.
There is a walmart near that 528 exit/ramp but I drive 20minutes south on 95 to get to the Viera Walmart b/c the last three times I used the cocoa walmart two people where being arrested as I walked into the store, then a crazy dude yelled at me and my children and the last and final time I shopped there a man offered to sell me drugs. ie. Clearlake, Dixon, US1 not a safe area. Once 524 turns in to Clearlake turn around!!!! Viera/Rockledge are nicer because of the location but this area is out of the way of the 528 and will add 30 minutes to your commute if going to orlando. And if you are thinking of buying there the taxes are OUTRAGEOUS! Also if you are concerned about schooling many viera residents are up in arms about the "middle school" controversy b/c many paying viera taxes are having there kids bused to the cocoa middle school which is in a less than desirable part of cocoa (clearlake). If you aren't concerned about schooling then cocoa is great. However if schooling is an issue and you move to Cocoa I recommend parochial or private school. There are many good private schools and public magnet schools in the area. ie. St. Marys Community Catholic School, Edgewood Magnet School in Merritt Island, etc. Going to orlando on the 528 from this area takes me about 1 hour. If you are heading to eastern Orlando/Orange County (ie UCF, Waterford Lakes, etc.) it takes 35 minutes on the 520. Here are the websites for the subdivisions. Hope this helps! I commute from Viera (south of Cocoa) to an office around Fashion Square Mall. I take the 95 to the 520 to the 50. I dont take the 528 because I dont want to pay the toll. I wake up 330am to hit the road by 4am. I do this to "miss" the morning traffic, and to get my morning work out in at LA Fitness, which opens at 5am. Its a one hr commute, but then again I'm on the road at 4am. Coming home is another thing. I usually average 1hr 20 minutes to get home, and I leave work at 4pm. The good thing about the 520 is they recently raised the speed limit from 55 to 65mph (but watch out for those cops waiting to give out their paperwork!).

Just wanted to add to my previous post..when I started my job last 10/07, I had a Suzuki V6, even back then, when gas prices where lower, my gas bill was over $400 for the mo the 10/07. Had a serious talk w/the wifey, and we ended up buying a Toyota Prius, which has cut my gas bill by almost 2/3 of what it was before. Aloha.....
