Does anybody commute to Orlando along 528 from the East coast? (Melbourne: travel, work)

I'm considering a move to the Orlando area. I see towns like Titusville and smaller areas like Port St. John and it seems like a pretty easy commute along 528.
Does anyone commute to Orlando from the East Coast? Is 528 a 4 lane interstate that flows well? Does anybody out there live in Port St. John or the Titusville area and work in Orlando? If so please tell me the advantages and disadvantages. Thanks!

There are a surprising amount of people that do just that and commute via 528. 528 isn't very heavily trafficed, so the only real slow down in the orlando area might be when passing the airport, Don't know about further out though toward titusville.

I know those area's have cheaper housing, but with today's gas prices, and considering quality of life, I would never want to commute 1+ hour each way every day.

I commuted from Port St John to Orlando, Bumby Ave off of Colonial. Took me 30 mins in the morning, about 35-40 in the afternoon. I didn't take 528, went straight down 50.

My commute would not take me as far as the airport. I would exit just prior. It seems to me that if living in Port St. John a commute to Eastern Orlando would be pretty slick. Can anybody tell me about what the Port St. John community is like? What elementary school and high school do they belong to? Is there any shopping areas in or around Port St. John? Any other good communities out that way where a commute to eastern Orlando would be reasonable? Thanks for your replies everyone. I appreciate all the feedback.

If you want an upgrade from communities closer to Orlando in Brevard County, those aren't the communities to be looking at, although they are cheaper. Rockledge might be alright.

Port St John is a small unincorporated part of Cocoa, family orientated. Not sure about schools, my children were adults when we moved here. As far as shopping you as in dept stores or a mall, you would have to go to Meritt Island or Melbourne. I live in Rockledge, not too crowed and pretty central to everything.

Thank you for your feedback about Port St. John. I was hoping you could share a bit more info on the area if you don't mind. You mention it is a subdivision of Cocoa. I have read a lot of bad things about Cocoa with crime and in particular they seem to have a very large concentration of sex offenders! What are your thoughts about Cocoa? What specifically does Port St. John offer that makes it a family oriented area? Where are the closest restaurants, fast food places, wal-mart, grocery stores...etc?

Yes there are parts of Cocoa that are bad just like anywhere else. PSJ, is a small community primarily young families from what I could tell. Never had a prob with crime. There is a new Walmart in Cocoa they built a few years ago, fast food and grocery stores prob a couple miles. As far as restaraunts like I said you will have to travel depending on what you are looking for, the most maybe 10-15 miles. The newspaper here is Florida Today, you might find some info there also.
