Hi

Can anyone recommend good home security systems in the Orlando area? If you go by commercials, safe touch wins.

Did a search on this forum and got nowhere

Thanks

I'm not sure about home security systems. I installed a bunch of ARLO wireless cameras around my property and have some video surveillance signs up. I live in a safe area in Dr. Phillips, so I'm not worried, but I also have a couple Glocks at home in case any intruder wants to ignore the cameras.

I just drove through my perceived safe neighborhood and was surprised at the few yard security signs. We recently had a break in on our Main Street and the surrounding houses to the one broken in to all now have new ADT signs. Other than that nada.

A new security system may not be a bad idea. The Oviedo PD has reported over 460 crimes within the City limits in the past 6 months, 100 of them being violent. If you need a new system installed I would recommend ADT. Then after your contract is up you may want to consider switching to a less expensive monitoring company.

Security really needs to be a community effort and done in layers.

I've found that places people see as "safe" aren't really that safe because residents have a tendency to let their guard down:

-it's a quiet neighborhood, no need to lock my car doors
-I'll leave the windows open, it's a good neighborhood
-I'll jog with headphones on by myself in the dark because it's safe

I would start with the exterior. Build relationships with your neighbors, look out for one another, report suspicious people hanging around. Have the exterior well lit.

If it's practical, have a dog. They can create stand off and early warning. They hear and smell much better than we. A large enough dog can absolutely deter as dogs tend to be protective of their homes and humans.

HD cameras are great as well. There also could be the possibility of your home owners insurance going down with a good alarm system and camera system.

An alarm system will alert you when something has happened but prevention is much better. Good camera system will get faces, cars, etc. so they can be caught and prosecuted.
