Avatar is Ruining Poinciana.. just like the Ruined Lehigh Acres...Unicorporated we know yes ! which is fine...But that does'nt mean we don;t need things...It Boggles my mind that St Cloud Hospital is Trying to put a Hault on the Hospital...I know they are "managed" by the same team as Heart of Florida .. but Come on...Nursing shortage or not. I know of plenty of Nurses that Live out here in Poinciana that only work tow days a week because of the LONG haul to get to work.. I think you might beable to Get 5 days outta them if there was a hospital here...
What happened to The Toll Road Avatar only wants to give this land up and the state says no...Pooh Pooh on Avatar! ... MIS MANANAGED!!!!!!! I really think it was a Smart idea for starbucks to pull out they would have no business out here unless of course they accept wic checks now!!!!!!...That is all youever see any more when you go to walmart a perfectly able bodied person with two kids (a couple) on wic... WHAT THE HECK!!..and i know the staff at walmart are about sick of it! |

Now days thats true , but Im talking about the People who DO NOT WORK! and get wic!
and if They Both need to work then they both need to work! Childcare is a major issue i know , there are not to many places that offer a decent Rate. But I think that is were the Govt failed ( there are several other places they have failed) if you want people of welfare and wic and assistacne then you need to provide them free childcare@!!! I know a handful of People that say " hey everyone else gets a free ride why can't i" and thats the mentality of these people you see on wic and welfare ( not all of them ) I also heard of the Spanish people saying that they come from PR to get the govt assistance over here because they have nothing like that on the island ..I don;t know how trure that is but i have heard it a couple of times and as for the wages ..you Cannot expect someone with no skills and no Gumpshion to do there job have way decent to get More the 12 an hour... |

umm most the tellers at walmart probably get wic as well if they have kids wic is a help but very little you get a couple gallons of milk and some eggs ,cereal and juice I work 2 jobs 7 days a week and still need wic 2 of those days is basicly to cover gas for the other days to get to work if a toll road went through I wouldn't take it I avoid tolls whenever possible I do plan on moving out of poinciana as soon as I can its getting to crowded not as nice and green as it was people either go 20 miles over the speed limit or 5-10 under it my kids go to new dimensions which isn't too bad a school so I'm trying to decide on whether or not to let them finish before we move out of this state. I grew up here and loved it but I'm tired of hearing people say your actually from here thats rare ..I finally sais yeah all the new yorkers have dirtied up the state with their building and rude attitude so most of us have left..

As someone who used to live in Poinciana, yes, there are a large number of residents on WIC and welfare in that area. I would suspect that many of the people who say they "absolutely love it here in Poinciana" are residents of Solivita, who only travel outside of their gated, manicured community to shop at Publix once a week, and spend the rest of their time at Stoneybrook Golf Course. Well, for those that do live in Solivita, remember that life "outside the walls" is very different than life in the rest of that area. Solivita's homes are subsidized by home sales at Bellalago (notice the huge price difference....the buyers in Bellalago are paying higher prices so residents in Solivita can purchase at lower prices), the roads are in very bad shape (except for Cypress Pkwy, and of course, the roads "inside the walls"). Part of the problem is that Avatar still controls what businesses build in Poinciana, and they should not have that right whatsoever. They bought tons of land there, for the sole purpose of controlling what happens there. Drive down Marigold, around the curve and then down Laurel....you will see lots of roads with one or two homes on them, and many more where the road is completely deteriorated, and no houses were ever built . KB homes as well as Meadows has bought some lots scattered throughout the forgotten parts of Poinciana, but they don't own much. Poinciana may have been a great master-planned community in concept, but Avatar has really screwed up that area, and it is now basically a low-income area, though are some really nice new homes scattered around.

My luck i'd be lucky enough to get on one of these streets and then boom they'd build a dozen homes around me / |

I know I have heard alot of bad about poinciana but I have also hear alot of good. We will be moving the end of june to a new subdivision close to haines city. We tried
looking at better areas but for some reason this came open and I feel this is where we are suppose to be, But I am worried alittle about the area and the schools since I will be having 2 in high school. Does anyone have any feelings about some of these new subdivisioins. we will be moving from omaha ne. we know that god has a hand in this since we tried to get a home here and nothing would work and this all fell into place thanks |

I actually lived on the Polk County side of Poinciana, but was right off of Marigold, south of the sacred walls of Solivita. Where I lived was exactly the same as the Osceola side. Unfortunately, there is no magical dividing line between the two halves of Poinciana. Both sides are pretty much the same, with the exception that most of the stores/shopping are on the Osceola county side. The fact of the matter is the only nice part of Poinciana is seeing the "Poinciana" sign in your rear-view mirror as you're leaving. No matter how you slice it or dice it, Poinciana is a primarily Hispanic and primarily low-income area. Sure there are worse places to live in Central Florida than Poinciana, but either way, Poinciana is not that great of an area, unless you're living the sheltered life inside Solivita. If your only commuting is from the gates of Solivita to Publix, you are not seeing how the majority of residents are living in that area.....you are not seeing the high-crime, low-income areas.
