I know too many people that have screwed up their knees badly from wakeboarding. Now swimming in lakes is a totally different thing. I live right by Lake Ivanhoe and its great for wakeboarding/wakeskating.
LOL, tell that little statistic to the people that are pulled off and killed by alligators every year, sometimes people who are just beside the lake.

I have marveled for some time at people with so little sense to get into fresh water here in Florida. I am FAR less affraid of getting bit by a shark then I am an alligator. You would be safer in the ocean, at least sharks don't like how we taste and stop at one bite.

You take the presense of alligators so calmly, have you been up close and personal with one? Its a sobering experience even from a car.

3 Killed By Fla. Alligators In 1 Week, Bodies Of 2 Women Found Sunday; Third Woman's Body Found On Wednesday - CBS News

A couple years back a woman on Sanibel was doing some lawnwork (you think the sound of the lawnmower would have frightened it away), the gator came up out of the pond he was in and dragged her in. An observer called 911 then came to her rescue, beating the gator over the head, the woman died at the hospital anyway.

Southeastern Outdoors - Fatal Alligator Attacks
Well last year there were 32 shark attacks, 17 in volusia county alone. In 2005, 2004, and 2003 there were 9, 11 and 6 gator attacks respectively although there was 1 fatality each of those years. 2 out of the 3 were people swimming (one of them swimming after midnight). If you read my post I said swimming in lakes is a totally different thing. I would never go for a swim in a lake or any freshwater in FL. Show me a fatal gator attack on a wakeboarder. None of my friends that wakeboard/wakeskate have ever been attacked by a gator but plenty of my surfing friends have gotten bit by sharks. The good thing is most shark attacks in FL only involve a few stitches. And yes I've been up close with a gator. I went on a gator hunting charter last year and have seen numerous ones in different lakes. Most wakeboarders, surfers etc. are fully aware of what they're getting into. Senseless? hardly

I live in SW Orlando...the Windermere/Winter Garden area. We are nestled between the Lake Butler Chain of Lakes and the Clermont Chain of lakes. I know of several professional wakeboarders that call this area home. In fact my kids go to school with the child of a professional wakeboarder who owns a wake boarding school. There are a bunch of other skiable lakes in this area as well. My husband also happens to sell real estate all over central florida, so if you need some help....he would be more than happy to help you!

I've grown up in Florida skiing on Lake Harris Chain; Windermere Chain; and many other central Fl lakes over the years. True, overall Orlando/Centl. Fl has great ski lakes and each will have its own concerns - true you must check out the gator/snake population, esp if you plan to buy as this will help your comfort level in enjoying the sport; don't forget to check out the volume of activity (of other boats, etc) per the size of the lake too.
My own ski lake house is now on the market - check back later on the price as Moderator cut: ad

Hi there, well i know where in my community we have a skiable lake and they are just in the process of putting in a boat ramp. If you dont mind not having lakefront you can get properties from as litle as $250,000 all the way p to 3500sq ft for $350,000. I know lake front lots are also being sold for $250,000 so if you wanted to custom build that would be a possibility in your price range.

Thank you I will look into this. My son and husband are big time into wakeboarding and that is something they intend to do a lot of when we relocate there. Another reason we should move coastal. I love the ocean. Mind you I do not go in past my knees. OK I'm a chicken, but at least I can see my toes!
