Hello everyone... My wife and I are very into wakeboarding and we have decided to move to Orlando as there are tons of lakes to load your boat there and for the hot weather. We have been looking at Weston in Miami but the lakes around there and not very good and we hate salt water for wakeboarding etc. Can you please point us in the right direction here??? Is Orlando really very boat friendly? We love to be on the water and we are looking for a house in the 500s. TIPS, AREAS, COMMENTS, PLEASE!!!

Well my friend has a boat and I have gone out wakeboarding with him once in Lake Jessup in Winter Springs......awesome watersport but I spent so much time sitting in the water that I was total gator bait.
Lake Jessup was a pretty nice ski lake for wakeboarding. Lake Orienta is a smaller ski lake in Altamonte Springs. Its a very nice lake to live on. Lake Jessamine is closer to downtown Orlando and there may be some lake front homes in your price range there. Great views..... Orlando is very boat friendly.....basically you are looking for a ski-able lake as not all lakes in the area are ski-able and open for motor boats. Oh and you will need to pack extra gator repellent.... |

So, let me get this straight... you actually want to end up as a snack for an alligator?

I would never do any watersports in Lake Jesup! 10,000 alligators call it home.

Moderator cut: comment Gators actually get scared off by the sounds of boats so you aren't likely to get attacked by one when wakeboarding. Tons of people wakeboard in orlando and it wouln't be the wakeboard capital if what you said was true. Only thing you need to worry about is messing up your knees. I know too many people that have screwed up their knees badly from wakeboarding. Now swimming in lakes is a totally different thing. I live right by Lake Ivanhoe and its great for wakeboarding/wakeskating.

Well to be ON a skiiable lake, most prices start over 500K in Orange and seminole Counties. But you can probably find a few In Lake county (that's right a county named for the thousands of lakes they have), and maybe a few around Kissimme and St. Cloud.
However if you prefer to be closer to the Orlando area and just need water Access there are a ton of communities that would fall in your price range. In particular the Big Sand Lake chain of lakes in Dr. Phillips is great for wakeboarding and is a very good area. I also recommend Lake Hart and it's surrounding area. What other criteria were you looking for in a home other than Ski Lake access/frontage? I can do some quick searches and send them over to you to help out. |

There is a place next to the Beach Line with a couple of minutes from Sea World and the Orange County Convention Center.
