Default Winter Garden to the Space Coast

My husband is interviewing for a job on the space coast with a NASA contractor. We like the Wedgefield/Rocket City area and homes, but he's always had it in his head he'd like to live in Winter Garden.

He recently saw a home in Winter Garden on realtor.com that was walking distance to downtown WG, lake Apopka, was on a big lot at a price he liked, etc.

I think he'd have an insane commute. He says he's willing to drive for up to an hour and a half each way, as long as traffic is moving and not sitting still.

What do you think? Possible?

Thanks in advance!

He would be headed in the opposite direction once he gets past downtown Orlando for most of the commute, but the drive will probably take between an hour and an hour and a half one way without traffic. I would not suggest it given all of the nice areas on the eastern edge of Orlando like Waterford Lakes.

It's possible but not recommended. He can basically stay on express roads the entire route to the Space coast but even than he will be battling stop and go traffic getting out of Orlando. You should really look into East Orlando or the Space Coast.

Default hi there

I specialize in the Winter Garden area and it is beautiful, but in all honesty you are right, the commute would be hellish, and added to that at rush hour times on Turnpike and 528 which he would need to use, traffic is sluggish and sometimes at a standstill if there is a wreck. Whilst i could show you some fantastic homes, i really dont think this would be the best area for your family given the commute for your husband.

Best of luck

I work with a gal who commutes daily from Titusville to downtown Orlando. After a year of driving, she just said today that the 'drive is becoming old.' And, you would still be going approximately 20-25 miles west to reach WG. WG has some great old town areas and old-time homes. But, I'm not sure sacrificing drive time is worth it.

Driving from Orlando every day would get very tiring. Also paying for tolls back and forth each day would be quite expensive as they are $1.25 for each one just about. How about gas at $3.25 a gallon he would be spending hundreds of dollars each week between gas and tolls. Plus there is always an accident on the interstate and roads in Orlando.

You should look into buying a home in Brevard County. Brevard is a nice county and alot safer than Orlando is. Orlando is on the top 10 most dangerous cities in the nation. People try not to bring this up, but Orlando is really a dangerous city. Orlando also has higher taxes as well. Check into homes in Titusville, Port St. John or even Mims. They would be the closest time for a commute. Let me know I can recommend a great realtor if you plan on buying a home. Right now there are so many homes for sale. Are you going to buy or rent?
