I highly doubt it as it’s hard to beat Atlanta

There isn't the talent pool/human capital here or the universities known for IT to advance it much further. FL will probably continue to be pretty fragmented between Miami-Ft Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa.

Good article, thanks for sharing.

As many might be aware, tons of regions are claiming or trying to be "the next Silicon Valley". I think that Orlando's tech scene will do fine over the next decade, but it's an extremely difficult hill to climb to be in the ballpark of Silicon Valley / Seattle / Austin.

The only way that this could happen is if some entrepreneur in Orlando starts a company that gets as big as the big players in tech --- and if that entrepreneur chooses to stay headquartered in Orlando after achieving massive success.

I wish. Orlando (and Florida in general) is undervalued. The cost of living has been low for a while.

You mean SF? Probably because Orlando wouldn't allow those crazy zoning laws to keep housing supply artificially low and rents ridiculously high

Not really in terms of the rental housing market, as it's been fairly well-established FL markets like Miami and Orlando are among the few cities in the US described as Most Rent Inequitable versus average salaries. From the article attached from last year..."According to the study, the most rent burdened county in America is not an expensive area in New York or the Bay Area. Instead it is Orange County, Florida and includes destination hotspots like Orlando. Here, a whopping 53 percent of low-income households spent more than half of their income on rent."

SF and the Bay Area in general... They blame them for the expensive housing, yet if a Wal-Mart wants to open a store, get ready for protesting because of low wages. It's one of the many weird things in the area. NO WAL-MART, SLAVE WAGES! NO TECH COMPANIES, TOO GOOD OF WAGES!

It's just the cities there, it's a big chunk of the residents... many truly believe more housing will increase rents and housing prices.

Interesting reading. Are there actually jobs in tech (like coding or web development) for people interested? My wife and I have long wanted to move to the area to be closer to family.
