Default Looking at an Orlando Move

We're looking at possibly relocating to the Orlando area and wanted to find out about the schools in the area. Our children are 3, 6, and 8. Where are the best public schools in the area and how do they rate with the rest of the nation? Also, we have a child with medical issues and wanted to know what the health care system is like there and if there are any excellent-rated children's hospitals. Any info would help out a lot in our decision. Thanks!

The best schools around here, in my opinion are in Seminole County. I believe they ranked seventh in the state.

There are two big hospital systems here - Florida Hospital, which the main one is close to downtown and is called Florida Hospital South. The other is the Orlando Regional Healthcare System which has the big trauma center. They all have hospitals located around the metro area. Arnold Palmer Hospital for Women and Children ARNOLD PALMER HOSPITAL is part of that system and is a children's hospital. The main hospitals are located along Orange Ave. just south of downtown (including MD Anderson Orlando (Cancer Center)) with Florida hospital just north of downtown. Florida Hospital has Centra Cares (urgent care) located around the area - not sure about ORHS. There are also several late night/weekend pediatric urgent care places popping up, which I have used on occasion.

As far as schools, overall Seminole County is better than Orange like the above poster mentioned. Search Orange County Florida Public Schools and Seminole County Florida Public Schools for more information on the schools.

Hope that helps a little.

I live in Lake Mary, and my husband commutes down to disney 5 days a week because he's a firefighter paramedic. Arnold Palmer is our favorite childrens hospital, and I donate money to them as well. Our schools in seminole county are excellent, and Lake Mary, Sanford, Oviedo are wonderful family communities to live in!

Seminole County schools do rate higher than Orange County, but I've heard from friends that teach in Seminole county that they don't expect that to last much longer. The influx of people into Seminole county for the sake of better schools is causing it to decline.

There are some good schools in Orange county also though. GreatSchools.net and Schooldigger.com -- Search and compare elementary, middle, and high schools. may be worth your time. Personally, my child attends Vista Lakes Elem and I'm very pleased with the school.

Default Hi

I would recommend Winter Garden. The schools are brand new and are already creating a name for themselves. We are very happy with the education our daughter is recieving. Also, we are located centrally, have great access to everywhere, Brand new shopping center is fantastic, and we watch Magic Kingdoms fireworks from our porch at night. We are a 5 min drive to the back of Magic Kingdom

If you need any further details feel free to ask

We are actually going to be staying at the campground in Winter Garden. It was really hard to find a campground that was kid friendly. My concern is finding a house we like so we can get the kids in school by August. What is the price range? We are looking for 4 bdrm in the 220K range....keep dreaming right??
