Glad to hear that. It’s about time the United States takes care of ALL of their citizens equally. This administration doesn’t care much about ethnic minority groups. Throwing paper towels doesn’t cut it from the Orange goon.

I’ve never got free hotels paid by the government! Where is my freebies!!!!! Since when has long term hotel stays pid by government been a right for US citizens? There are thousands of homeless people throughout the country, they aren't all getting free hotels indefinitely.

FEMA has been utilizing hotels for decades in the aftermath of natural disasters to house people who lose their dwellings. It's fascinating however that it's suddenly an issue when it's solely Hispanics who are involved...

How is it an issue? FEMA has covered hotels for 9 months now. Do you expect FEMA to pay for hotel stays forever? What would be your deadline and the criteria for it? Show us that FEMA has been more generous with criteria for non-Hispanics.

Oh god, stop with your race calling, seriously this is why Trump won the election. A non-Black person can't even have dread locks now without getting publicly shamed. Why is every single issue with Democrats these days reverted to race? I don't care if the people are White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Gay, Transgender, or animals... I just think this sense of entitlement is ridiculous and it cannot last forever. There are many entry level jobs available, it's been almost a year since the hurricane, why is government required to continue paying for so long?

And just for the record, my best friend in Orlando is from PR and I don't even consider myself White. Actually, pretty much most of the friends I've made in Orlando are Hispanic and some Asian/Indian. I have 1 White friend in Orlando that I actually hang out with, but yeah I must be a racist for thinking almost 1 year of free hotels is outrageous.

lol seriously kyle...

New deadline is July 20. Anyone here want to place a bet on whether they will be out by then?

Eh... This is a tough subject. On one hand, I can agree with BMW and BrANAL's frustrations, but on the other, I can also agree with Kyle in that this has been a thing for decades. I'm going to stay out of the racial issue, as that will lead to an entirely different conversation I do not want to get involved in.

Keep in mind that the majority of PR still had no power going into April. In addition to that, the lead restoration crew (Duke) did a very flimsy, botched job at restoration: Using decaying wooden poles to run conductors on, not building their systems up to spec, etc. Their work there wouldn't even pass their own internal inspections. In a lot of places, one simple car running into a pole will be enough to knock out an entire circuit. That would never happen here. I'd explain why but I'd end up boring you all to death with techno-babble.
This is in addition to many families having lost their homes, businesses, etc. PR is not a wealthy place, despite being a part of the US. The average RN there is paid around $14/hr.

On the other hand, I also do not think ANYONE (them included) should expect to be able to live practically for free for so long. There are jobs here. A requirement should at least be that those capable of working are actively seeking employment, if not actually employed,.
