Default Lake Nona Area

I know these days with all the newcomers and new developments coming in, I am a rarity our here. I am opposed to all the development and things to do coming out here. I have been living out here since before Publix was here and when Moss Park road was still dirt. That is the reason we moved out here, to get away from the city and the congestion and people. We like the quiet. I knew moving out here I would have to drive to get places but it was worth it me to live in this kind of peace. I knew that it is unrealistic for me to believe that my neighborhood would stay the way it is, rural and quiet, but it does bother me when people complain that there is not enough "stuff" for them around here. Everyone who has moved out here has done so by choice, you should have checked out the area more before moving here to make sure it had everything you wanted. For now, drive to wherever you have to do what you need, and be patient eventually, to my dismay, all of that stuff will come to us.

Default Area

There will be a whole lot of things coming your way soon.

Actually there are meat markets all over orlando - you just need to know where to look.
The ones I know of - for now are bit farther for you to get to - as you need to get across 528 (B-Line aka Beach Line).. but when Alafaya [ALA FAA YUH] Trail FINALLY gets completed..it will be much easier..

Real Meat markets can be found on state road (50) colonial on the right hand side near chuluota (CHOO LEE O TA) yeah I know (Indian Word) from 417 turn right go east about 6 miles. [ Between 408 East West Expressway (bonneville road if you need a another marker] and yep chuluota road] (I hear they are really good) - forgot the name - think it is something like Bobs that is why I forgot the name...

Or on Dean Road between Lake Underhill and Curry Ford road [ Reddits Meats].

In WinterPark you can find Lombardis seafood.. no place like it. Mills and Orange avenue right in the corner area .

For Appliances - SouthEast Steel - .

Hair Salon - well they are all over and since I am not a hair salon kind of guy .. I have no clue.

Waterford lakes shopping center - the largest Outdoor sghopping center in the state of florida is just off of Alafaya Trail and the East-West Expressway [408]

Dining out - depends on what you like for that - the ABSOLUTE best restaurant in town in my opinion is Manwells on the 28th floor - but it IS REALLY PRICEY - I MEAN REALLY PRICEY... about a Ben Franklin per person.. he makes Emeralds look like a beginner..

Charleys Steak House # 4 in the country about $40 per person - dont worry you will bring something home I am sure..
The best one is on Orange Blossom Trail just north of Sand Lake Road.. If it is Your Birthday - the Steak Portion is free.. just show the ID first..

Vitos Chop House (same owner as Charleys) Great Food.
Fishbones same Owner as Charleys again great food.

Dan Marinos in Pointe Orlando - was my absolute favorite b/c the quality of the food, and the price, also you could take in dinner and then see a movie on the Muvico IMAX giant screen - good experience.. Near the Orlando Convention center on International drive south of Sand Lake road..

Houstons in Winterpark backs up to a lake - very nice atmosphere off of 17-92 Mills Avenue.

In Waterford town center area there is/are macaroni grill, red lobster, longhorns, smokey bones, outback, orlando ale house tgifridays..

You are with in 15 miles of all of these except Houstons

There are many others to list.. if you are looking for something only 5 minutes around the corner .. that is a bit more difficult ..but possible -

There si a short cut to sand lake road with out going the highway route - by going boggy creek to Landstar - then north to the cutover to Orange Ave. then norrht to Sandlake.

Orange Avenue is where the McDonalds Bistro is - I recommend going to that one at least once - Really an interesting place. nice atmosphere VERY RELAXING .. but it is McDonalds - they dont serve just Bigmacs so do not be surprised to see real sandwiches, and real pizza , and real cakes etc..
Say high to the fish for me if you go ...nice Aquarium..

I haven't heard about the new mall going in at 417 & Narcoossee, that's great! Does anyone have any other information about this? Even though we have a lot of great stores in Waterford you really have to travel to find a real mall, with real department stores.

On hairdressers if you don't mind going downtown, there is a guy who is really good and written up in a lot of the magazines around town. His name is Mychael Peters, 1231 N. Orange Ave. 407-896-4849.

You could also call the local Newcomers Club (I think there is a website) to meet new people and find out more about what there is to do in your new area! Good luck!

Can someone help me find a few places of "necessity" - such as a good salon to get a ladies haircut, a day spa - for that occasional needed massage - and any grocery that actually has a meat counter where you can select your own cut of meat, chicken, pork, etc.? Does it exist in Orlando? We had a lovely family owned grocery in Ohio that sold gourmet, organic, and fresh fruits, veggies, meats, etc. The only grocery I've found is Publix, and their meat selection is all pre-packaged. Is that the case all over the city?

And, where are the post offices? I haven't found one yet. It seems I'm having to drive 10+ miles to find anything that was within a few easy miles of my home in Ohio. I love Florida, but am getting a little anxious not being able to find some of these places. If you can't refer to a specific place, can you at least provide me with a resource where I can look them up? I can't even find anything on the internet that is close to Lake Nona.

The problem is you move out to get away from it all, and traffic builds up to the point that what used to be a short trip over 10-14 miles gets longer, and longer... and more frustrating.

If you are like the original poster, wanting some ammenities, you'll often find that they are few and far between because most developement is focused on chain and lower-end, mass-appeal stores. People around here don't have alot of taste or adventure, they don't really care about anything but chains and mundane choices, and since there is little sense of history here, most people don't care.

I recommend Whole Foods to the original poster. Go there once a month or two, and stock up. I don't go very often because gas prices are high and traffic down there is only getting worse every year, but if you know what you want you can buy in large quantities. Chamberlains in Oviedo where I live used to be good but again, most people don't appreciate what they sell, so they got rid alot of their better food (it has been a while since I went to the one in Winter Park to know the situation there). This town is full of people who think Publix is "good enough", and if they want something unusual they go out to eat (Chamberlains stopped selling sushi, tempeh and most of their miso, for instance... but there have been two Japanese restaurants that sprouted up... very frustrating if you like to cook).

Thumbs up Pasquale's

Hi,

New to the thread but I did read that Pasquale's was mentioned. I have eaten there once and ordered pizza to go once. It was good to my husband and I. Have you tried it yet? I love Italian food, so if anyone has any other recommendations of places to try let me know. Thanks!
