Hi Everyone, I need help figuring out what would be best for my child, a private school, charter or public school for my 15 year old son who has autism. He does not have behavior issues, gets along well with people. He would not be able to handle the curriculum of a regular classroom, (too rigorous) and right now goes to a special class that is geared for kids with learning disabilities, it is a slower pace environment. I would like to find something similar. Would I find more qualified teachers in a private or public school setting? Where would he thrive better? Do public schools do a good job, do they have comprehensive programs? I am looking at Winter Park HS, Windermere, Lake Mary, you can throw others into the mix. Also looking at Paragon and Arbor, which are private schools but if you know of others please let me know. Have not found any charter schools to consider, but please mention any if you know. Give me your opinions on educating special need kids and what would be the best alternative based on what you know about Florida education system. Much Thanks!

I would look into Lake Mary for sure. It's away from all the Disney World chaos, but still close enough for a drive. That is a really nice area, up scale type business, plenty of services. Stay away from volusia county areas, I hear nothing but stories of parents who struggle with their children and disabilities.

Wish I could be more help. A close relative of mine was married in Lake Mary, it was a really beautiful small area, not too overwhelming.

It really depends on the school district. Good luck..
