Hello all.

I'm looking at a possible relocation to Orlando for a job offer. It's downtown Orlando, near the city hall.

I have NO IDEA where to start looking for apartments (or even if I should buy property). What I'm finding near the work location are a lot of condos for rent in the $1500 and up range. (I've also discovered a fairly affordable place called Lake Lucerne Towers, but there seems to be horror stories about management there.)

I'm mid-30s, male, single. I don't mind living in the city, or even the "bad parts" of some cities, sometimes. I'm a big boy and can handle myself.

But I have no idea if I should look near the job and be close to work... but the sticker shock of those rental prices! Or... if I should live further from work, but I have no idea where I could live that the commute won't be awful. (Sometimes there are those unknown "unicorn" area of homes/apartments that go in a different direction than the flow of traffic and the commute is fine. I found this place in my old city of Albany, but that took a while to find.)

I know some places would be going against the flow of traffic and vice-versa. For the sake of location for reference, my possible new job is near downtown Orlando city hall on South Orange Ave.

Thank you all for any advice. I love this forum.

My budget back home in upstate NY was (is) $900/month for a two-bedroom, 1000sq/ft (plus utilities, so about $1100/month total) on a salary of $68K (remember we have NY state income taxes).

My (theoretical) salary for this downtown Orlando job would be $75K-$85K, and as I understand there are no state income taxes unlike New York.

So, below $2000/month is where I would like to be.

Good luck finding that here in a reasonably safe area.

Considering the bold text, this won't be hard to find at all.

True, but he originally said he was in sticker shock at the $1,500 level, and that's for apartments that are probably 500-600 square feet in the downtown area. If he can adjust upward, he will be fine.

I'm confused by your math, OP. You originally said you experienced sticker shock looking at a $1500+ price tag, but then later said you'd like to stay below $2000. So why the sticker shock at $1500?

Perhaps he at first did not realize rents would be that high, and then he adjusted upwards.

I was going to make a joke about male posters but I’m only sure of bimmer and Arcenal.

A joke...

Carry on.
