A woman placed her baby in an oven when her boyfriend was breaking up with her, Orlando police said. The woman, Sharlyn Singh, (photo at left) is being held on a charge of aggravated child abuse after the incident at an apartment on S Kirkman Road on Tuesday. A man who was helping Singh's brother move out of the apartment saw Singh, 29, "by the stove and heard the baby crying," according to the police report. When Singh left, the man, whose name was not in the report, "realized the baby's cries were coming from the area of the oven." The stove, which was turned on, contained the baby, but it had not gotten hot enough to burn the child, whose age was not given in the report. When police arrived, they saw what appeared to be oven grease on the child's hand and clothes. Singh is now in Orange County Jail on a bail of $15,000.

Thanks for the links, many more of such situations are taking place not only in Florida but around the nation. The crime and abuse situation extends way pass the immigrants, is a social economic problem that affects everyone regarless of color, race, or religion.

I got the news from the newspaper. You have NO idea how dangerous most of Florida is. Please read the news. I would trade places with anyone that lives in a low crime city, they can risk their lives living in south FL

Bmurphy, you are a perfect candidate for Orlando. Angry, stubborn and your way is THE way. I've read most of your posts and I rarely comment, but you're way of thinking is part of Orlando's problem.

You don't live there, and you cannot possibly have or FORM an opinion (either way) until you do.

I got the heck out of Florida this past Summer. These people aren't lying to you at all - Orlando has turned into something awful.

Did anyone read about the robbery in Casselberry yesterday? In the early evening people were eating in an IHOP when 5 hooded guys come in, taser the FRIGGIN customers, shoots a customer and robs the place. In Casselberry! This isn't a bad area, or it wasn't.
Before I moved there was a tourist who was driving through downtown Orlando in the daytime and was shot and killed. His wife thought he had a heart attack because the car ran off the road and hit a tree. BROAD DAYLIGHT. Was this on national news? Are you kidding?
What about the man driving in his convertible down by Leu Gardens - A supposedly very nice area where people get married all the time - got shot in the head at a stoplight and died.
What about in Kissimmee this past Summer when a guy bumped his horn at someone sitting at a redlight too long and they follow him home and shoot him with a shotgun?
And the 30s murders arent in a city of 2mil. Look up the stats. Orlando the city is less than 200k people. 47 murders in 200k puts Orlando at the top of the most dangerous cities in America.
When the 2004 Hurricanes hit it did A LOT of damage. Did you hear about it? Neither did my family who all thought I was crazy because I was so scared. My house alone had over 30k in damage. A brand new home. 2 years later I was still waiting on a pool screen to cover my pool . (Mind you it cost 3k originally and 1 year later it was 15k to replace). Why wasn't it on the news?

5 years ago I lived downtown when no one else would. I had a house on a street where drugs were rampant. The houses sold for around 50k. Now? Over 700k. You simply cannot afford to live in the Orange County City limits without paying 300k for a 3/2 1200 sq ft home. For Orlando???? Why??

My final house was in St. Cloud. 30 miles from downtown Orlando. I bought the house and land for 250k total. I just sold it for 470k. Why? St. Cloud was once a farm town, but now it's Kissimmee part 2 (major crime, horrible traffic, gang signs everywhere, etc.)

Yes Florida has heat. But have you ever had to stay in your house because it was too hot to even go to the beach? You WILL get used to it, or I did. I liked the heat a lot. But it does get unbearable.

Disney? Sit in line 2 hours for a ride in 95 degree heat and you're never gonna wanna do it much. I loved going to House of Blue for concerts. But in the last year, so many people getting beat up, stabbed, raped, etc....just a damn nightmare. Going to City Walk after dark? Bring a gun.

I loved Orlando with all my heart. It was once an affordable, safe, fun town. There's nothing safe or affordable at all.

Take a look at the crime in Metrowest - which is supposedly a great area. Also before I moved a young lady was raped in broad daylight as she was moving into her LUXURY apartment. Another young lady lost her husband within days of moving there as he was mugged and murdered in his parking lot.

I know I am babbling and writing terrible grammar but I am at work and have to be fast.
All I am saying is that someone from another state acting like a "know it all" is insulting and disrepectful to people who are losing everything they lived for just to get out of a place that, IMO, is hell now.

brother bluoktober is right about you.comeon down to fl .youll fit in just fine .with every passing day Floridans get even better at ignoring the facts ,or just pull that blanket down a little farther(right sunrico?),or just love it cause its still better than whatever 3rd world isle they come from.dont you even watch the national nes Orlando is in it almost every week. And huge percantage of the crime is commited by illegals!but i guess that statment means this will be delegated to a sub topic on immigration.what we really need is to put every topic under that subtopic cause illegal immigrationaffects everything!AMERICANS QUITE GETTING TRAMPLED!PLEASE

Angry people are part of the local culture now.

Shocking, but even good areas get invaded by bad area people. Normal.

Before I moved there was a tourist who was driving through downtown Orlando in the daytime and was shot and killed. BROAD DAYLIGHT. Was this on national news?

Crime in Orlando stays mostly under the wraps. There are powerful Disney, real estate, and developer forces that don't like crime on the news. The town has become quite violent.... there is no telling how bad it will get, but OPD chief McCoy says he "has no idea" how to deal with it, I am thinking it will get MUCH worse....

What about the man driving in his convertible down by Leu Gardens - A supposedly very nice area where people get married all the time - got shot in the head at a stoplight and died. Look up the stats. Orlando the city is less than 200k people. 47 murders in 200k puts Orlando at the top of the most dangerous cities in America.

A brand new home. 2 years later I was still waiting on a pool screen to cover my pool . Why wasn't it on the news?

My mother in law in Cleveland said I was some kind of a nutcase when I said "Hurricane Charlie made Orlando look like hell". All she saw on TV were pics of downed trees... looked like a small deal. When I told her today about the tornadoes, she said "it doesn't look so bad". Again, call me Ms. Conspiracy Theory, but there are real estate forces at work here.

Why??

Living downtown and not expecting crime is silly. We never go downtown without taking a gun (minimum). If husband is with me, we double up and have them ready when we drive through certain spots.

Yes Florida has heat. But have you ever had to stay in your house because it was too hot to even go to the beach? You WILL get used to it, or I did. I liked the heat a lot. But it does get unbearable.

I don't believe in "getting used to extreme hot or cold weather. You either tough it and you have to choose what is worse: heat or cold.

Disney? Sit in line 2 hours for a ride in 95 degree heat and you're never gonna wanna do it much.

Think that is bad? Try going to Islands of Adventure, wait 2 hrs for a ride in the sun, then sit on a just sat-on coaster, where a sweaty dude just walked out and dripped all over it. YUCK!!

I loved going to House of Blue for concerts. But in the last year, so many people getting beat up, stabbed, raped, etc....just a damn nightmare. Going to City Walk after dark? Bring a gun.

Again, if you go to the House of Blues, you need to EXPECT crime. Have you not noticed all the same-color shirt people? Gang colors!!

I loved Orlando with all my heart. It was once an affordable, safe, fun town. There's nothing safe or affordable at all. My brother is working 2 jobs right now. 1 Pays the rent and 1 pays for food, insurance. Fun money? $3 for 1 Blockbuster video a month!

Take a look at the crime in Metrowest - which is supposedly a great area. Also before I moved a young lady was raped in broad daylight as she was moving into her LUXURY apartment. Another young lady lost her husband within days of moving there as he was mugged and murdered in his parking lot.

How about all the poeple raped, killed, robbed, and burglarized in MetroWest?? It is so bad, OPD has a special task force in MetroWest. Same crap, still.

All I am saying is that someone from another state acting like a "know it all" is insulting and disrepectful to people who are losing everything they lived for just to get out of a place that, IMO, is hell now.
My policy now is: you ask for my opinion, I give it to you. If you wnat to come and say "nah, it's not like that", then fine, come down and see for yourself. It is what it is.
