Moving to Orlando, question about area..
I've taken a job in Orlando so my wife and I will be relocating from Miami. I have a couple friends who live in Orlando and they've given me a few basic areas to look at, but my wife and I haven't been happy with them.
We've found a few homes in the same area and we were hoping to have some light shed on the quality of the area.
The general area is "LONG LAKE SHORES", around the "LOKEY DRIVE" area. We're a relatively young couple, and we're looking for a decent area to live in for a year or two until we can learn the area better and decide where we want to permanently reside.
We're looking to rent at first, and try to get the most we can for around $1300/month. We were told the cost of living in Orlando is approximately 11% lower than that of Miami, but we've noticed the neighborhoods in Miami are generally newer -- or are we just looking in the wrong areas?
We're trying to stay within reasonable daily driving distance to the Maitland area, and we would prefer not to stay in an apartment/condo.
Any help would be appreciated!

That is not a good area in general. That is too close to Pine Hills Rd. You either want to move further west toward Ocoee or further north toward Altamonte. I know College Park has a lot of rentals as well. A lot of the newer areas in town are in Winter Garden, East Orlando, Oviedo, Lake Nona, along the 417 (Wyndham Lakes) or Poinciana/Davenport.

What a shame, it was a great house.. figures. I'll check out the areas recommended, thanks!
Can anyone recommend any realtors who won't yank me around and get us in the decent areas? I've talked to a few who keep trying to get us into areas which we know are undesirable by telling us "they're not that bad, etc". We're in Miami, and unfortunately, we don't have time or desire to keep driving up to look at places which don't fit our needs. It's very time consuming and frustrating.
Thanks again!

I do not have many recommendations on realtors but I would avoid these zip codes the most: 32805, 32810, 32811, 32818, 32807, 32808, 32809.
The nicest are: 32789, 32804, 32806, 32751, 32750, 32803, 32814, 32765, 32828, 32836, 32812, 32801 (downtown) 32707, 32708, 32826, 32817, 34787.
Decent or variable: 32701, 32714, 32819, 32835, 32771, 32825, 32822, 32703, 32792....
I am missing Lake Mary and Ocoee and they are both nice to me.
If you follow the Orange Blossom Trail through town, those are some of the worst areas, as well as Pine Hills and Oak Ridge. Both of those have a major road with the name running through it. Most of the city neighborhoods east of I-4 are nice, as well as most of the suburbs. If you look at any other properties and have questions, definitely let me know!!!

Awesome, thanks for the recommendates and zip codes. We've found a handful of places in Oviedo/32765 which look fantastic. We're going to check them out this weekend.
Thanks for all of your help!

That area is a lot safer with better schools.
It is just some deal further from downtown than other areas, but still somewhat convenient. Good luck with your move!

The only distance I'm concerned with is to Maitland, and Oviedo is within acceptable range. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of convienience for safety and an overall nicer place.
Again, thanks for the zip codes. Those helped out tremendously. Hopefully the houses we're being shown will work out.

For $1300/month you could probaly find a home for rent right in Maitland, Winter Park or Casselberry. Your commute would be minimal and the area is fairly nice. Try looking around Horatio ave., Howell Branch Road, Red Bug Road, Maitland Ave., Maitland Blvd, Lakemont Street, Lake Howell and parts of Fairbanks/Aloma ave. There are newer town homes (not apartment) right on Maitland Blvd. You may also want to consider Altamonte and Lake Mary. You really shouldn't have much problem finding something nice in your price range.

For $1300 a month you can get a very sweet house in College Park or Downtown.
Downtown and College Park are the best and most accessible areas of Orlando. I would really stay away from the rest of Orlando.
My husband and I are young professionals and we live in Thornton park for about $1200 a month.
Try these zip codes:
32801
32804
Good Luck!
