What are some of the better beaches east of Orlando and approximately how long does it take to get there?

Personally I like cocoa beach it`s quieter then most of the others like daytona. And it`s within a resonable drive time from orlando. There are also some nice beaches around Melborne.

I haven't been to Cocoa but would like to try it out.
I live about halfway in between Daytona and Orlando so I go to Ponce Inlet and drive on to the beach by the jetty. This is right down by the inlet and red lighthouse. There is a lifeguard there AND there is also a shower house with bathrooms which is convenient. Ponce Inlet is right above New Smyrna and right below Port Orange. New Smyrna is a nice beach but there is also a high incidence of shark bites on this beach. |

I definitely agree. It depends what you are looking for. I also like the beaches around St Augustine, but they are further away. Around 2 hours away.

I'll get out my ole trusty map and find those places. Hmmm, shark bites? Not so sure about that. ![]() |

Okay,I'm going to stick up for our large teethed finned friend. If there are sharks in the water, get out and let them pass.Don't let your kids go out on a boogie board and don't just sit there and read a book while your 10 & 5 year old are in the water. Common sense will help you to manage to live in harmony with these beautiful but deadly creatures.Remember, they do not attack a human as we are not part of their common diet. But if your out in the deep waters or resemble a seal being on a boogie board ,or you have an open cut(even from sea shells on your foot) you may look and smell like dinner.I have lived along floridas beaches for awhile and I have learned that I am a visitor in their world and need to respect that! |
