I will be moving to Orlando soon and will be working at ORMC. What are some good areas to live in to best avoid some of the major traffic problems?

Depending on your shift hours, rush hour goes towards downtown, which ORMC is just south of. The east side of town has heavy traffic on the 408 west bound getting off at Rosalind (where you would get off, to go south on Orange Ave.). It's bad. I go to work that way (not to Orange Ave.) at 9:30 am and I'm on the tail end of rush hour. Some days it's fine, others it is still bad. Although I love living on the east side of town, that commute is bad. That's the only area I can tell you about. But living in Orlando for many years, I-4 west bound (i.e. coming from Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs, etc. towards downtown) is a nightmare in the AM too and going home at the end of the day. Those are the major highways.

What about from the West, taking the 408 eastbound? I've heard that's not nearly as congested.

I was hoping someone that lived on that side of town would respond, but yes, from me driving past downtown to the Kirkman exit, the traffic coming from that side is much less. Same with going home at night. I do drive rush hour then, and from downtown to the west (I am going the other way, but I can see it) there isn't much on the 408. Good luck! -
