Hi all,
I was talking to a hair dresser today and we were talking about how our hair falls out a lot more in FL than anywhere else. I used to lose about 40-50 strands a day I guess and here I lose about 80 a day I am guessing. Anyway, she is not the only one who has notice this. A lot of women in the Central FL area (who are not orginally from here) has told me the same thing. I was wondering if anyone here has experienced this and knows why this happens here in FL? What do you do to get your hair not to fall out as much?
Thank you kindly in advance for your kind advice.
Peace

"Hair loss is more common met during summer time. Heat is the main thing that affects your scalp during summer time. Apart from burning the tresses it will as well lead to humidity that will eventually lead to hair damage and loss. Humidity will cause excessive sweating that will lead to infections of the scalp and damage to the hair roots. Sun is another factor that will lead to hair loss as the hair will get drier and the scalp as well. The heat will as well enable your body lose more water, and especially this summer, when the temperatures have risen, the body’s PH level can be disturbed. This will make the hair weak and susceptible to breakage." -metrolic.com

Also, you may want to check your thyroid levels. I assume this is true in any sunbelt state, especially the east coast.

I live in Southern Lake County, and our tap water is actually quite good. No skunkiness or chlorine taste at all.

I've always lost more hair in warmer months, but I've been here for over five years and my hair is as thick as it's always been.

Age/menopause can also cause hair to become thinner.

As a guy, I haven't noticed any increased hair loss. I'm out in the sun, in the pool...as been mentioned, it may be an age or chemical/biological issue.

Nope, mine's still thick and full....but it's developing this nasty habit of changing to a much lighter color!

I agree, It probably has to do with the gene inherited from your mom which is the main cause of hair loss in men and women or maybe over processing your hair.

I'm sorry I have to ask this.....you actually count the # of hair falling out? Haven't seen the problem or heard anyone mention it till now and I live Central Florida.
One thing that I don't do is color my hair. That and pulling your hair back into a pony tail really tight can also cause loss. When I was teaching up North a doctor told me to stop doing both.... <g>
