That is bullcrap. I'm a little upset with this ranking.. Orlando is on par with places like detroit and camdenNJ. Orlando crime wave has not ended!! ask anyone here and they will tell you that its very scary. Maitland which was a really nice area is starting to look a little like Comton, cal. Best place for singles? hah ha haa like to spend 1300 for just a one bedroom apt? that is starting price to rent here for an average 1 bedroom. Like to be paid 7.50 an hour for professional work? It's like that here. Hot as hell in the summer. you guys up north have it made in the shade.. you all get paid really good an housing ,cost fo living is comparable to salaries(ie places like New York and Conn, mass and NJ). I wish to hell to be In conn and then be able to afford things.. I have a friend who swears it;s harder ro live in New York metro then Orlando.. I just have to laugh.

This is not my reality. I was born, raised, and worked in the Northeast (Philly, New York, Newport, etc..) for many years; and, have no desires to go back. In short I love it down here, and so do many others.

I've been working on getting back to Connecticut too. Check out the full list and you will see Bridgeport\Stamford in at #20. Also look at the percentage of people with college degrees in CT as well as with incomes above 75K. The jobless rate is less than Orlando. All this and the population is less than half of Orlandos Metro area.

Just try going to the residents of Detroit, Camden or Compton and making this statement. They may find your assertion insulting. I agree crime has risen dramatically here but it is not any of those places. I say that not only because it's inaccurate description of Orlando but also somewhat insulting to the residents of these other places who really do endure the environment there and would probaly jump at the opportunity to live in Maitland. I lived in the SF Bay area and DC. Yes I was shocked to come home and find murders being reported every week but imagine my shock first moving to these areas where in place like Oakland there seem to be 3 murders reported daily. DC-Baltimore area was just as bad. And even in the State of Florida, South Florida is no cake walk either. My point is, if I went back to any of these and try to say Orlando is just as hard as their towns they'd probaly laugh me out of town. That being said, all of the places I mentioned are great places, crime and all. But just like anywhere else it's matter of where you are and how you carry yourself. I feel the same way about Orlando.

To get back on topic, most of the list seemed logical. Mid sized metros where an educated young person could easily find a job and make a decent living. I was a little surprised to Salt Lake and even us on the list. I always thought Salt Lake was a conservative family community and we here in Orlando generally don't have as high of a percentage of bachelors as some of the other areas like Raleigh, Austin or Houston. I was also surprised to see how much higher our median rent is here compared to many of the other places. I personally think it's mostly a product of all the condo conversions and real estate speculation going on the past couple of year. Hopefully that will correct itself. Either way, I think I'll start using this list as a guide of places I should visit as a young person. If it's that great of an environment to live, it would probaly be a pretty entertaining as a vacation destination also.

Its OK for someone in their early-mid 20's moving here from the northern states but by the time 30 yrs of age rolls around this place gets awfully old awfully quick. Still, I'm surprised Orlando made the top ten and one or two others. I went to college in Raleigh for a short time and there is no way that place should be #1. Better job opps than Orlando but come in. DC and Seattle I can most definitely agree with as they are both lively cities with an intelligent population.

Ok I live in the Orlando metro in a suposedly bad suburb, I have been a victim of crime 0 times. zer, nada ziltch. I guess maybe you need to get out more and stop bieng so soft and cowardly, your fear is totaly irrational, let me ask a question how many times have you been a victim of crime in orlando, or is your fear born purely out of the sensationalist crap the local news pumps out?

By the way I pay 700 a month for a one bedroom almost half your 1300, so i must be living in the worst ghetto and have never had any problems

Dang, I pay 1300 for my mortgage on my 3bdr/2bath home... no wonder you are unhappy!

I have lived here over 25 years and have also been a crime victim at total of 0 times.

I think that Orlando was ranked so well because it has a lot of things very deciarable for that age group.... weather, diversity, entertainment.

The only thing mentioned was major growth and service economy wages. What about that puts Orlando at number 9? I find that kind of funny. Plus, growth has slowed, and some schools are even losing kids, or growth is (at best) stagnant.
