My husband has recently taken a job in Daytona Beach Florida. He will move there in August. We currently live outside of Atlanta,GA. I am a teacher and am concerned about a few things:
1. What about this hiring freeze? Should I look in Orange County or try and hold out for a job in Volusia county? How hard is it to find a teaching job? ![]() 2. I am looking for a nice place to live with good schools and is generally affordable. We can give around $220,000 for a house. What area would you all recommend if I have to drive to Orange County to teach? ![]() |

Hi--I live in Daytona Beach and will say that trying to get a teaching job in the Daytona Beach area will not be easy. They are closing 4 schools and have to absorb those teachers into the vacancies they will have. And the enrollment in the Volusia county schools has been dropping the last couple of years. I substituted in Volusia county schools this year and I know many of the newer teachers are very worried about losing their jobs.
If you have commute to Orange county, Pelican Bay in Daytona Beach would be a handy place to live as it is almost at the intersection of I-4 and I-95. And you can find probably find a home/townhome in the area that will fall within your price range. Port Orange would be another good place to look and, again, you can probably find a home in the area for your price. I have a real estate license and if I can help you answer any questions, please let me know. Good luck with your move and your job search! Emily |

Ive alreadu [posted about teaching jobs in Orange/Osceola county. But i assume they are old and you didnt see them so i will just recap for you. My wife is a title agent and went to study to get into teaching. She is qualified to teach high school science now. Both Orange and Osceola schools districts have effectively put a freeze on hiring new teachers. If teaching is something you are trained to do or want to do in this area, i would wish you good luck, because at the moment there are limited if any jobs out there.
I wish you the best of luck |

Thanks so much! I never thought I would see the teaching profession in trouble! Are the schools so bad that the enrollment is dropping? Are these students going to the private schools?

In all honesty its the fact that in the boom years schools were expanding at an extroadinary rate and over expanded in anticipation. Since the bust, homes arnt selling at the rate they were so schools arnt filling up at the same rate so they dont need to continue hiring. Im afraid its as simple as that.
