Default Opinions on where to live vary.

As a real estate professional in Central Florida, I find it very interesting to read the various opinions about where the best places to live are. Polk county has really good prices on homes, but that is partially because of the distance from a major city. Crime is everywhere, unfortunately it is a fact of life. Poinciana is currently experiencing a large amount of turnover of homes because many of the sellers of properties are shorting their mortgages to escape there high ARM rates. Because of that, getting a good price for maximum square footage is easy in that particular area. It is growing, and there is going to be changes in the area in the next year that will improve the situation. Winter Haven, Auburndale, Lakeland, and Haines City are more of a small town feel. They have a different county running the public schools, and because of the distance from Orlando, the homes have not experienced the extreme fluxuation of the up and down housing market like Poinciana and Kissimmee. Polk county is a great area, however because you are in a buyers market, you should be able to get what you are looking for regardless of where you chose to buy. Find out what schools are in the area that you eventually choose, and research them. You know better then anyone else what you expect out of the neighborhood that you eventually move into.
