Default Where to live near Lockheed on Sand Lake Rd?

Hello!

After a long job search, I believe mu husband is close to accepting a job with Lockheed on Sand Lake Rd.

We have 2 kids, 18 months and 4. We are coming from the cold, snowy northeast

We would like to try to rent for at least 6 months to get to know the area before buying.

We would really like to be fairly close to Lockheed at least in the beginning. Are there any nice neighborhoods that would be close by and offer a decent commute (less than 15 minutes)?

We were thinking to look at Dr. Phillips.

If anyone can tell me of some nice areas around Lockheed that would have a pretty short commute without tons of traffic, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

I think that Dr. Phillips area would be the best. Hunters Creek is not far but the traffic on John Young would make your commute a little longer than you are looking for. One area to definitely avoid would be Tangelo Park which is very close to Lockheed and pretty bad. However, it is a very isolated area so no need to worry about crime spilling over into Dr. Phillips because of it. Lockheed is a great company. Congratulations and good luck!

IMHO Dr phillips is the best area that close to Lockheed. I've been here since 1989. It has some of the best schools for the area and is a very convienant location. The main Hwy (I-4) is just minutes away. Sand Lake Road has some of the best restaurants around and all close by. Food shopping (Publix, Albertsons, Whole foods) all within minutes of each other. There is a nice new public park within 5 miles from Lockheed. It is the only place in Orlando that I would live. Housing can be pricey for Orlando but you can shop for some deals while renting. Thats what I would do.

You can still find a nice home in the $250K-385K range depending on your needs. On Sand Lake road is a development called Granada Villas. It is next to the Barnes & noble store. Homes were in the $400-500 range 2 yrs ago those same homes are now in the above mentioned range now. They should be good investments when things turn around again.

Thank You to everyone!

Our price range will be around $300 - 400k. Hopefully somewhere in the middle around 350K though.

In the development i mentioned before in that price rance you can get 5 bed 4 bath over 3300sq ft for around $340,000. These are new floor plans from the builder, and for this square footage were selling and some still are on resale for around $600,000. These are a good investment, in a great neighbourhood with good schools.

Wow! Then we'll be able to spend even less! That would be WAY too big for us. We don't want or need any larger than around 2500 sq ft, 4 bed and 2 full baths would do just fine.

Thanks for the development, I will look into that and see if they have anything a little smaller.

For properties in your size range you would be looking in the mid to late $200,000. I spoke to my contact with the builder and they have just released larger lots aswell so properties being built on larget lots would cost more.
