Default Orlando--I love it!

Hello all,

Just returned from Orlando and I gotta say this place rocks! Thanks to those that gave advice on East Orlando. The Waterford Lakes area was fantastic. Also loved the surrounding areas even the not so fantastic parts were great. Have just one question for anyone that knows.....wondering what that is just south of Avalon Park...looks like a nuclear plant in the dark? Another question....are they going to continue expanding further east? I was there during rush hour when everyone was going home and saw a ton of traffic headed towards Alafaya but it doesn't look like there are enough homes to accommodate all the people headed that way. Do these communities have thousands of homes? Thanks

Yes, they are going to keep expanding in that area. There is a lot of traffic on that side of town. Avalon, however, is still affordable and a nice, family oriented neighborhood. There are thousands of homes in the 4 big neighborhoods on that side of town. Keep in mind that traffic is bad everywhere in Orlando. Be sure to visit in the summer time so you can a real feel of our typical weather. Glad you liked it!

The smoke stacks are from the Stanton Energy Plant - a coal powered plant - NOT nuclear. They are beginning to renovate it to a state of the art - clean energy burning plant.

If you move to this area you will be my neighbor...I live near Lake Nona.

Yes to both questions about the neighborhoods - there are thousands of homes in the Waterford Lakes/Avalon Park/etc area and traffic can be a pain. Avalon Park only has 2 entrances so that makes it tough.

Getting to/from Avalon Park at peak times is a major PITA. The road is outdated and greatly overburdened and there is no real alternate route. One day it will be "four-laned" and an extension to the Beachline will happen, but that could be a decade in the future...
