"When I was in NC people would wave as you drove by them, I was thinking who does that? I don`t know these people way to creepy for me."
Friendliness.... ahhhhhh... breathe it in. Creepy? LOL! Better than the finger right? Wow, someone saying that waving to people u dont know is "creepy." I am stunned. |

Something many have noticed is that people in CLT can't merge to save their lives. On 485, they literally come to a stop in rush hour to let people merge, rather than maintaining speed but opening a space for the vehicle trying to merge. Do you really think people from up north can't drive or handle traffic? What planet are you from? What is the highest volume road per mile in the United States? Yes, it's the NJ parkway, carrying crazed commuters along the eastern part of the state! People that drive this road anywhere from Cape May to AC to Shore Points to North Jersey to the Tappan Zee all know how to merge at high speeds. They know how to drive in basically bumper to bumper traffic, except they do it at 70 mph. What is the busiest road in the United States, in terms of total number of cars and trucks? Yes, it's the NJ Turnpike! People somehow get from NY to Philly and down toward Delaware/Balt/DC by the millions every year with far less trouble than only thousands of people have navigating 485 in Charlotte, lol. Have you ever driven on the Merritt Parkway in CT? It is super high volume, very curvy and very fast. Someone that can handle that commute thinks any road in Charlotte is a quiet farm road. Comparing driving conditions and the skill required from up north, to Charlotte driving is like comparing crossing the street in downtown Matthews to Times Square. Yes, the New Yorker will cross quickly, even start crossing while cars are passing, because they are used to it and get on with their day more quickly. A local might wait until there is a clear opening in traffic and extend their time downtown by a few minutes. It makes no sense to blame people that are used to tons of traffic and high speed merging for the bad driving around Charlotte. Perhaps the Charlotte residents that have seen their city and traffic grow a lot in the past ten years are the ones to blame for not keeping up or adjusting yet? Should we blame a Boston transplant, used to driving around the Big Dig for not being a good driver or the lifelong Charlotte driver, who remembers when 485 was brand new and empty? |

Hey, how are the lakes around the Orlando area? Are they big enough for a medium size cabin cruise that we will be buying later? There is an Intercoastal Waterway east of Orlando, right? A lot of Pleasure Boats/Cruisers on that waterway? Just looking for some water (Intercoastal, lake or both) to maybe do some fishing and relaxing on during the weekends when we aren't working.

"Tailgating is the one thing that is over the top in Charlotte that really frustrates me, because as you said it is so dangerous."
So, if you think it's (tailgating) bad in CLT, why in the hell would you come to Orlando? That's like moving to Houston to escape crime. But you are right, it is extremely dangerous, but I am telling you "LoveBoating," if you think driving's bad in CLT, you are gonna head right back to the hills after being in Orlando. |

"Yes, it's the NJ parkway, carrying crazed commuters along the eastern part of the state!"
You said it not me... "crazed commuters." My point EXACTLY. Then they come down here to FL and NC and drive like idiots down here WHEN THEY DONT NEED TO. SLOW DOWN, DONT ENDANGER OTHERS BY DRIVING LIKE A "CRAZED COMMUTER." There are tons of accidents down here in FL, not nearly as many as NC. SO please dont gimme crap about how we cant drive and the NJ folks are the better ones, just because they conduct themselves like idiots, and know how to handle other idiots better than we can on the highway. We arent as good at handling idiots on the highway because we dont have as many to deal with. This is kinda new for us. Bare with us though, you guys keep moving in like the state is going somewhere with out you, so with our luck, we'll be able to handle all the craziness too. Sorry, didnt mean to go ape, I just cant stand it when people from NJ, or wherever, complain about a place and how it is better where they came from. I thought I'd be used to it by now. |

That's actually more legit than moving to Charlotte to escape crime.

Compelled, it is SO much easier to get away from crime in CLT. In Orlando, wherever you go, it can be sketchy. You and I both know this. 2 people got shot in the Avalon Park area of Orlando in like 2 months time man. Yes, where homes are $250k - $1mm. In CLT, atleast on the oustkirts, it is SO much easier to get away from the BS. Believe me. You can show me stats all day about how crime in CLT is bad, but it isnt as bad as Orlando. I guarantee it. I can move to a suburb of CLT and be miles away from crap, but where I live, it is harder to escape. Go ask the people on the CLT forum who used to live in Orlando which is worse. I bet on CLT feeling safer, and if I'm wrong, I'll never talk bad about ORL again.

It's really easy to get away from the crime in Houston too. Also, Avalon Park isn't really all that great and Charlotte has deceptively nice looking areas like that too. However, go out to Seminole, Lake, parts of Polk County, and yes, quiet. And of course they are going to tell you it's safer because it's Charlotte, the promised land.Charlotte has NO problems! The "recent" increase in crime is due to Florida! Nothing factual to back them up though, or the fact that you can check out the stats yourself of Meck and surrounding counties and compared them to Orange and surrounding counties.
Also, why were those two people shot? Domestic? Or were they just walking down the street and a bullet hit them? |
