Here, I found it.
Florida Crackers have been replaced by Immigrants in Working Class Jobs in Orlando

Also, where are burglaries, thefts, etc?
Yeah crime is more evenly distributed through Mecklenburg county. In Orlando area crime is highly concentrated in a few really bad neighborhoods. Just one example of how statistics can be misleading.

OK, Dbansal, I never lived in NC, your right... (rolls eyes)... And when you say...

"People aren't necessarily unfriendly in Charlotte, just not nearly as friendly as the people I meet in Orlando. Like you say you're used to people not smiling/talking to you, they do that more in Orlando."

I have to wonder if you are talking about the same Orlando. There is an Orlando in Oklahoma. But like I said, we disagree, who cares?

I lived in charlotte (pineville & huntersville) from 97-03, then Orlando (metrowest & lake nona) from 03-08, and am now back in huntersville. Crime is far worse in orlando than charlotte.

My friends & coworkers in charlotte talk about how bad crime is here and I just roll my eyes. Of course, it is getting worse. But that;s true of the entire country - as the economy continues to get worse, crime will continue to increase.

Orlando has a far bigger 3rd world population, so that contributes heeavily to the crime.

The fact that your coworkers talk about crime speaks miles to me, because I only hear anything about it in the news. People do complain about other things, but not crime. It is not really a part of my day to day. Did you have as many problems with crime in Lake Nona as Metrowest which is notoriously bad?

Cagman, I have been trying to tell the folks here that (2 or 3 of 'em dont believe me). I have lived in both NC and FL too, and I think a pretty good source of information. And as far as the 3rd world population, I totally agree. I bet atleast 7 out of 10 Floridians now living in CLT would agree that Orlando is worse.
Maybe I'll start a poll asking people in CLT (who used to live in Orlando) which is worse.

Yeah, but just because you and a large group of realtors "say" the crime is worse doesn't mean you are correct, because you aren't, and I can prove that. I don't mean to insult anyone (I'm a rude Florida person who robs banks for a living from NY after all), but if you think Charlotte is safer, you are delusional just like the masses, sorry.

no, metrowest is far worse. It's a shame too, metrowest should be a nice place to live. It's in a good location. Just too bad some of the worst slums in orlando are a mile or 2 away.

I'm not really knocking either city. I enjoyed living in both of them. Orlando's getting a bad rap these days cause people are pissed their homes have dropped in value 30%+ in the last 18 months. I think that has a lot to do with the sour taste people have.

Crime everywhere is getting worse.

I lived in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte for about a year and now have been in Lake Nona of Orlando for about eight months. I much prefer living, working and playing in Orlando over Charlotte.

Default Hi

We just moved here to Shelby from Orlando. Orlando is very fast paced, lots of traffic, worsening crime, hot and full of mosquitoes. I do seem to miss it some. I have a lot of great friends there. Be careful with Amoeba and the lakes in the summer months. Several have died over the last few years.

If you like Orlando, Baldwin Park is a nice community. Winter Park and College Park are also nice.

Also, Check out Lake county it may be a little slower paced for you. There is a community for your age group, maybe a little older at "The Villages". I have never been there, but hear it is nice.

The gulf side of Florida is really nice such as Clearwater. Tampa , Fl has one of the worst housing markets in the country, so there may be deals there.

Hope that helps. Orlando weather is beautiful from Oct.- May. Summer is terrible, but if you have access to a pool you can tough it out. Try not to get waterlogged though.

Yma

Yeah.....the pool is FANTASTIC! It was HOT on Sunday, but a dip in the pool and I'm cool as a cucumber the rest of the day. I'm convinced that it's the secret to surviving Florida in July and August! LOL
