I am looking into relocating to Orlando, Florida area from Michigan.
Can anyone please give me good advice of safer neighborhoods to look for an apartment and places to certainly avoid? Im a 20 - something single mother with a 3 year old child. I will also be moving with my best friend who is a 28 year old male (he will be living with me.) Thanks for any help. Also, we're not looking to spend more than 800-900 a month in rent if we can get away with it. Thanks for the help. |

The Waterford Lakes area of East Orlando offers many rental options in your price range and has good schools.

I would not recommend the Millenia area for a single woman.
There are much safer areas in Orlando IMO. |

Just don't move to Pine (crime) Hills.

What is bad (specifically) about the Millenia area?
What other areas are safer? I have heard metrowest also is decent. |

The Millenia and Metrowest areas look nicer than they are because they border some worse areas along Orange Blossom Trail and W COlonial. If you find somewhere further out by Hiawassee or out toward Winter Garden you would be a lot better off. If you still want to be centrally located, I would look into the 32803,32806,32814 zip codes.
If there is a gate where you are staying then your home and car may be safer, but you will still have to drive in the area at night inevitably and shop at the Publix/Walmart in that part of town. I think you could do it and you may even be fine, but the risk of being victimized by crime is higher in those areas (32811,32839 zip codes). |
