You may want to look at northwest Orange/east lake in areas like Mount Dora, Eustis, Sorrento, Tangerine, etc. The Orange County schools aren't the greatest but the western beltway gives you good access to downtown and the attractions. I believe the northwest leg of the beltway has been approved which will give great access to Sanford/Heathrow as well.

Yes, I have some insight. My family and I just moved from Clermont nine months ago. We moved there in 2003 and it was a beautiful little city. It has since changed though. We lived in a sub-divison called Sky Ridge valley. If you are still considering Clermont, I would strongly suggest that you stay out of that development as it has really gone down the tubes big time. The people that have moved there are less than desirable. The schools are way over crowded. I have four children that attended the high school which was no gem (East Ridge) , a lot of issues there. But I guess all high schools have their issues. And I had three that went to the Minneola Elementary. That school was terribly over crowded. They had co teaching there where there was two teachers per class room trying to teach a classroom size of between 30-35 kids. There was more portables there then school. Had a lot of trouble with the development as far as cops always coming down to the basketball courts. Need I say more as far as the kind of element that was moving in? As far as the commute goes, my husband is a nurse and he was working downtown at Florida Hospital in Orlando. He worked nights (7p-7a) the traffic was horrendous for him. It would take him at least 45-50 minutes to get to work and that was at night. God knows what it would be durring the day. 50 gets really backed up to the turnpike so if you are working days, you sure would need to give yourself extra time to get to where you are going. If you have any other questions you can email me at maryann1804@aol.com. Hope some of this info is helpful. Oh and another thing, the prices of homes there have sky rocketed, or at least they had before we left. Along with property taxes and homeowners insurance.

The word “Neighborhood” in the heading of this post got my attention. I live in West Orange County and last week took a drive out to Clermont to see what the growth was like.

First, the word neighborhood must not be associated with Clermont as well as many central Florida cities. What you have is spiral at its worse. It’s too late to try plan growth because how do you put the tooth paste back into the tube. New development after new development are popping up faster then summertime thunder storms. All homes are cookie cutter and if a storm blew off all the house numbers you may not find which house is yours for hours.

Ten years ago Lake county had their chance to do it right and they blew it big time. Such a same that what was once central Florida’s beautiful rolling hills has turned into a sea of rooftops.

We looked at Clermont prior to settling in Winter Garden.

We initially like it a lot. The communities are nice, the houses are new- everything you need for that "cookie-cutter" suburban feel. But the distance was really the defining factor. I don't really have to drive to Orlando on a daily basis but I like being somewhat closer to the airport, attractions and other businesses.

I have lived in Clermont since I was 8 years old. I am now 25, married, with 2 kids and we still live in Clermont. As far as stuff to do for a young family, there isn't much. We go to Orlando most of the time for nights out, shopping, movies, ect. We both work in Clermont because I went to college in Orlando and the drive was horrible. As far as living here, it is growing rapidly and you have good neighbors and bad, just like anywhere. It isn't a big city like Orlando, yet, but Orlando is definitely bleeding into the small town feel. I would suggest you come visit a few times, drive around, talk to locals. We like it but it is changing.

I would have to say Winter Garden/Windermere are great places to check out. Pretty much centrally located with managable commutes to anywhere you would need to go. I would say that alot of people slam Orange County schools. I would suggest checking out the schools in the immediate area you intend to be. My experience of the schools in this area is great and we are very happy. Its all relative. The stats are an average. There are a great many exceptional schools around and each persons opinions are going to be based on their experience. Ask for info on particular schools on here if that is a consideration for you and get the info first hand.

Good luck
