This may be true if Orlando was not filled with an over abundance of desperate workers willing to work for whatever they give them so they can put food on the table. Companies will not raise wages to compensate for gas prices in Florida, the slave labor will simply have to work more jobs.

This is untrue and has nothing to do with "Orlando Bashing", but the majority of American cities provide their workers with a livable wage. Florida's economy is not diversified and is mostly dependant on tourism. This is not the case in most major American cities with diverse economies. |

I always thought anybody working for Disney would make at least $15 and above. The only good thing I heard is the benefits is excellent.

Disney paying $15 per hr or above to anyone.........where in the heck to you get that info????? Kids working at Disney would never get that, but if a person is working in the Accounting area of Disney (and has a college degree), the wage could be/would be higher than that $15 per hr.
As far as the cost of gas goes: People will do what they have to in order to get to work OR they will quit the "long distance" job and find something closer to home. That is their options. As far as wages go: Until I was 52 yrs. old I was making up to $11.50 per hr working in warehousing/stockroom (and that was in So Calif). I did ok living as a single person. I just didn't "gobble" up a lot of my money with "toys", traveling or entertainment......but I still had a nice life! Today, I'm married and we live a good life on our household income. Gas can be high, which it is, and wages can be lower, which is true in many parts of the U.S., but the bottom line is this: Just depends on how a person handles their finances. |

Yeah I know NOBODY outside Orlando makes minimum wage lol. That is the Florida minimum wage btw, the federal minimum wage is indeed $5.85 an hour, and it is set to rise to $6.55 an hour on July 24. I used to live in San Francisco & Boston and knew plenty of people making $15/hr or less. Orlando is not as cheap as it used to be, but it is not an expensive city by any stretch. If you have a low skill job at Disney or a degree in a field nobody wants then don't expect to make big bucks, you won't make it here, or anywhere else.
