Rank / Zip Code / Area / County / Total Crime Index
1 32837 Hunters Creek Orange 17
2 32821 Williamsburg Orange 22
3 32832 Moss Park Orange 23
4 32817 Union Park Orange 24
5 32828 Avalon Park/Eastwood/Stoneybrook/Waterford Lakes Orange 25

If the zip code you are not interested in is not listed above that would mean that it falls in the middle of the pack as far as crime risk and safety goes, at least according to Ersi's analysis as reported by the OBJ.
Not sure how accurate this is, what I can tell you is that as a former resident of Avalon Park, we were victimized fairly often. Nothing violent, but enough to make us re-evaluate our long term plans living there. We have lived in Seminole for over 2 years and so far no stolen bikes, break ins or broken car windows.

Bithlo, Hunters Creek and Pine Hills in the top 25 zips? I am going to express my doubt about that list....

Horrible list that doesn't even show how it came to these figures. Seriously, how is 32809 and 32818 safer than Winter Springs?

I did not do the research reported in the article so I can't defend it's accuracy. I just got tired of reading all the threads on this site about the safest area to live in that weren't backed up by any references to published data, but instead seemed only to be based on personal opinion/bias. If anyone has other published data, please feel free to share it.

However, I think it's fairly obvious that the security guard manned, gated community you are now living in Seminole County at a pop of $2,100 a year in part for that security would have less crime than any non-security guard gated neighborhood in Avalon Park, or most any other unguarded neighborhood in the Orlando metro area for that matter.

If you care to provide your zip code we could try and research other crime databases for yuks to see how it compares with Avalon Park. It may be that your insulated little gated neighborhod is not reflective of the crime or overall safety of your zip code/community.

If you have some published statistics that can contradict the info contained in the article please feel free to share it.

I don't know how they found 32809 and 32818 to be safer. I believe they consider their methodology to be proprietary. However, I did quickly check anotherModerator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowedwebsite for yuks and it also showed that 32809 and 32818 were safer than 32708/Winter Springs:

32818 total crime risk index = 35
32809 total crime risk index = 40
32708 total crime risk index = 41

That same website gave me this:

32808 (which is actually the CORE of Pine Hills): 65
32789 (Which is the affluent core of Winter Park): 293!?

Your data is entirely consistent with the data in the Orlando Business Journal article that I posted. Zip 32808 was not in the OBJ list or in my post, which means it falls in the middle of the pack consistent with a crime index of 65. Zip 32789 had a total crime index of 299 in the OBJ article which is in line with the 293 listed above. While I agree that zip 32789 includes the affluent core of Winter Park, it also includes all the other less desirable areas of Winter Park as well.

So basically, that real estate website is using the information from Esri, which is also the same source used by OBJ. Perhaps they're using data from different years. But like you said, it's proprietary and I think that leaves us at a dead end. I'm also aware that there are some sketchier parts around 32789 (around Eatonville). But I still don't think that's enough to come such incredible stat, especially when Eatonville is not even part of that zip code. I'm not even sure if they're using per capita, property crimes, etc. etc.

Actually, playing around with that website even more, it also says that Clermont has a crime index of 70 while Pine Hills has a crime index of 46. Let's see what all the Clermont lovers have to say about that...
