Honestly, you do get used to it and you come to appreciate how amazing it is. One thing Florida has is some awe inspiring weather patterns. While I hate to hear of anyone being hurt, frightened or loosing their home, the weather here is amazing. My Uncle who is retired Army CID, was visiting one time, in fact the time that woman was struck. The lightening struck just one street over from mine. You could feel it thunder in your chest. My Uncle thought we were under fire for a split second, he was halfway under the couch. While it frightened me, I was aware no one was lobbing mortars at us. My poor Salem is so affraid of the noise that at times he will run through the house and hide in a bathroom cabinet. |

The car is relative safe but as was noted, don't touch anything metal. There was a guy who was waiting for a train to pass, lightening struck the train and it traveled to his car. He was burned really bad as his arm was resting on the metal part of the window.
Also be careful out on that golf course, besides being out in the open those metal clubs are lightening rods LOL.. Lindsey, maybe they know something other's don't about how far away it can travel. I know 10 miles is the general rule.

I wish I remembered the name of the special, the fact I can't could also mean that "I'm so old I can't remember" the correct distance but I could have sworn it was some kind of outrageous distance.
On it they spoke of one man who had been struck by lightening twice. That was kind of astounding and he wasn't the type to stand outside with a lightening rod in his hands. On one occasion he was standing under clear skies and the storm was off in the distance. I have a healthy respect for the lightening. Its an amazing thing to watch but you have to be careful. |

Orlando IS the lightening capital of the world. At least that what the local meteorologists keep reminding residents.

I may be crazy, but I look forward to Florida's rainy season for the lightning!
