Winter Garden, Florida
Hi,
I am looking to buy a home in stoneybrook west in winter garden. What are your thoughts on the development and winter garden in general. Is it a safe area?

It is a very nice area that is also pretty safe. I would avoid the areas of Winter Garden along W Colonial/SR 50 and the downtown Winter Garden area. The area you are referring to is very nice.

Totally agree with Wilshire. Winter Garden is great but near 50 and north of it is getting pretty bad. There was actually a murder in that area a few days ago. But I think south of 50 is a beautiful area and very safe.

Do not live there but I just walked Plant Street in downtown WG and had lunch at the French Cafe and Bakery. Delightful eatery with scrumptous bakery items. WG folks have done a tremendous job with spiffing up downtown. I think the not too safe area is east of Dillard Street and south of Plant. At least that is what a former resident showed me while driving through town. Also, there a fabulous mall called Fowler Groves which is filled with specialty restaurants and shops. This same friend's daughter and family live just north of Plant Street in center of downtown and consider that the safe historic area.

I have been a resident of WG for my whole life (save when I went away to college and worked for a few years in Atlanta). I have never liked the area south of 50, but that's just me. The whole area is just houses on top of houses, IMHO.
But the houses themselves are nice, and I believe the area is safe. Just be prepared for a very small yard, lots of rules, and plenty of neighbors.
The downtown is nice but stoneybrook is no where near the downtown area.

Hi,

Looking to buy a home in the Orlando area and visited both the DR. PHILLIPS and Winter Garden communities. I am looking for a guard gated community; with my budget the homes in DR. PHILLIPS are small with hardly any view. Stoney brook west is a guard gated community with much bigger homes and a golf/pond view for the same price. Which is a better area (safer)? Any other area’s I should be looking at?
