Default Looking for a home inspector in the Central Florida area

Hi,

I'm looking for a housing inspector in the Central Florida area, specifically Clermont. Anyone have any leads for me? I've contacted a few and they will only do inspections on resale properties and not new construction. I would think with all the construction going on that there must be some companies that do inspections. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Check out Certified Building Inspectors in Maitland - they have a guy who inspect new construction.

I used Florida Appraisal and Building Inspection, Inc which you can find at www.faabi.com for my house. I think they are based in Clermont. I was very happy with the inspection they did and got the report about an hour after the inspection in pdf format.

We used Tom Comer Inspections.
He is certified, etc, and did a great and professional job for us 10 days ago.
He just did the new house we bought in Leesburg.

Thanks for the info. We'll look into them. Its good to hear from people with first hand experience rather than just picking someone off the web.

Hello,

I'm a home inspector of 17 years and I DO NOT service the Orlando area, so you can take my advice for what it's worth.

You don't really know who those people above are. Chances are at least one of them is a home inspector.

Home Inspectors in Florida are completely unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a home inspector so there are some very shoddy inspectors out there.

With very few exceptions the best home inspectors are ASHI and/or FABI certified members. Membership in these two organizations is very difficult to get and often takes years to accomplish, that is why most inspectors don't have any real certifications.

Go to ASHI.org and fabi.org to find a list of certified home inspectors in Orlando.

Stay away from diploma mill certifications like NACHI. Anyone on this forum could get a nachi certification by the end of today it's so easy.

If you have any specific questions please feel free to contact me.

I just checked and the inspector that we chose is certified by both ASHI and FABI.

The person I used, Tom Comer, is ASHI certified......I am not a home inspector.....I get nothing for recommending him, but found him a pleasure to work with.
I spoke to a neighbor who lives across the street, since I am still in NY, and the neighbor told me that Mr. Comer was there for over three hours.
He sent me results of his findings as a pdf file that same afternoon. He called me that night, patiently explained his findings to me, and mailed the complete package to me, which I had in my hand within 3 days.

He also sent me his accreditations, which explained how important the ASHI and FABI thing was. I have everything downstairs, but really do not feel like going to get it.....I do not feel like I have to "prove" anything.....I was just trying to help.
