I am planning to move to Orlando, florida, my decision is right? I hear many crimes are happening there. Any safe place in Orlando?
Can some one guide me? |

I would suggest Lake Mary or Oviedo.

Like others have advised in other posts, look for and secure a job before moving. Then I would suggest you look for a place relatively close to where you work to live so that you can avoid paying too much for gas and a headache sitting in morning and afternoon traffic. Any commute along i-4 in the direction of general traffic or all the way across town on surface streets would be painful and tedious. One you locate a job it becomes easier to suggest where you should look to live. There are nice and not so nice pockets all over town so that will definitely be when you would want to come back and ask the specifics. I would not tell someone to not move here because of crime, because it is not that bad and there are very safe areas throughout the area. I would tell someone to not move here if they are concerned about landing a certain type of job, making a certain amount of money, because jobs are tough here right now. There is also a lot of traffic, toll roads, not the absolute friendliest people always, and humidity, storms, etc. There are a lot of redeemable qualities though like great retail and restaurants, entertainment, nightlife, great homes and parks. There are lush environs, nearby beaches, great winter weather, constant special events and festivals taking place, concerts, golf courses, walking trails, town centers like Celebration and Baldwin Park, great colleges, etc. I happen to love it here. I would never suggest somewhat not live here because of oversensationalized media hype or the random event of being a victim of crime that could take place in any major city in the US. I would suggest someone look into all the other factors that make up Orlando to see if you really like it, then move or do not move to the area. I find of my friends that are looking to move, it has nothing to do with the crime, people or traffic that people complain about on this forum. My friends who want to move cannot tolerate the heat, are struggling in this job market, or want to move closer to their families.

There are several gated communities in the area. In addition, Lake Mary & Winter Springs both ranked in Money Magazine's Best Places to Live.

All depends where in Orlando you want to move to. Downtown orlando/pinehills/rhineheart etc are all bad, best places are stoneybrook, clermont, heathrow, lake mary.. What are you looking to live near?

Also need to consider that when we think it is bad, depending on where you are from, can determine how bad is bad in the new neighborhood. i.e. If you were from L.A., southcentral, Watts area, then Pinehills isn't real bad at all. Take it from me.. coming from an neighborhood where you actually hear shooting all about your surroundings, especially at night, coming to Pinehills is a relief where there aren't as much shooting everyday and night like the 'Compton' area or 'Inglewood' areas. I sleep very comfortably here in this side of Orlando, though I still believe if it is this good in the neighborhood the people here say is bad neighborhood then there must be better. I like 'Casselberry' area in Sentinole county about ten minutes north of downtown. Very peaceful and the schools are much better for kids.
